It wasn't until I got down from the bed, and staggered into my mom's room with a complaint about a headache, that I found out that my body was burning up.
She immediately called my dad from the kitchen and both of them began to fuss over me, taking me back to bed and feeding me medicines and food.
I stay in bed all day, skipping school.
Mom remains in my room for a while, making me drink cool water and changing me into better comfortable clothes.
My head hurts so bad. Every step I take makes it seem as if someone is hammering my head. Even lying on the bed, my head spins as if it's on its own personal ride. Not only was I having a fever, but the throat-wrenching coughs that burst out of my mouth made me feel even worse.
I don't know for how long I've slept. Mom says it's been hours, but it feels like I've barely winked.
After a few hours, mom makes me get up and walk downstairs to lie down on the couch in the living room because it's easier for her to get to the kitchen and other parts of the house without having to climb the stairs.
I grip the railing of the stairs, feeling a throb in my head with each slow step I make down the steps. For a few seconds, I think I might even faint in the middle of the stairs.
Mom's right behind me. All my blankets and pillows gathered in her arms.
Finally, we reach the bottom and I waste no time dropping myself onto the couch as mom covers me up with my blankets.
She places her hand on my forehead, checking my temperature. She sighs. "Did you eat something last night that might've given you this fever?"
I can barely shake my head without wincing. "Not that I remember." My voice sounds croaky and light. So light that it's barely audible. But mom hears me anyways.
"Might be a viral flu or something. You're shivering like crazy." She says, then leaves to get more medicines.
A groan escapes my mouth as I turn to my side and curl into myself.
Well, fuck.

God knows how long I've been asleep. I wake up to my mom's hand on my forehead, her voice gently calling my name.
A small groan comes out of my mouth with my breaths coming out short and hot. It takes me a while to figure out what mom's saying.
"Castle's here. He wanted to ask why you skipped school."
That gets my attention and I'm instantly half-awake.
