Her head was throbbing, it felt like someone was banging a hammer on the sides of her skull as she tried to will the pain away, pulling the pillow over her head as she squeezed her eyes shut. It wasn't helping that she couldn't breathe; her nose was stuffed and it burned every time she swallowed. Sitting up, she gasped for air as her monochrome roommate looked on with a disdainful look.
"Enid, you shouldn't attend classes today, though it would be entertaining to see you try," Wednesday commented, and Enid gave her a Are you serious? look before plopping back into her colorful bedspread.
"Thanks for the heads up," the blonde nasally responded, and she sneezed as she winced in pain, groaning as her hand flew to her throat.
She heard Wednesday shuffling around before the soft patter of her feet came closer, and she opened her eyes to see Wednesday holding out a cough drop.
Nodding, she carefully unwrapped it and plopped it into her mouth, the bitter taste flooded her sense as her eyebrows furrowed as her face puckered, and the noirette smirked down at her.
"I hope you don't intend on me to stay and care for you, but I'll bring you lunch and homework from your classes. Don't thank me, hearing words of gratitude might spoil my mood. I'll return at lunch," Wednesday stated and she instructed Thing to look after the werewolf before taking off.
Thing tapped at Enid before dragging a magazine over to her, plopping it on top of the covers as Enid sat up, immediate regret setting in as her head began to violently throb, and she strained to keep her eyes open.
"Definitely not reading right now. I think what I need is some air!"
No. I was specifically instructed to not let you get up from this bed.
"Well, you aren't gonna stop me!"
I'm sure Wednesday will have something to say when she comes back.
"Come on Thing! Can't you see I am in dire need of some air!? It gets stuffy in here sometimes!" She whined, clearing her throat as she threw her legs over the bed, and her feet hit the floor as she shakily searched for her shoes. It was like she had tunnel vision, everything blurred slightly as she weakly put on her shoes.
She then grabbed her small sweater, throwing it around her body as she stood and began walking slowly out of the dorm.
Thing tapped at her, but she ignored him, one because her ears were slightly stuffed, and two because she wasn't in the mood to deal with the appendage. He defeatedly climbed onto her desk to find her phone, quickly unlocking it as he typed a quick message to Ajax, assuming she would listen to him over anyone.
Enid: Enid is very sick, and she has left the dorm in a request for some air. She can hardly see, and she won't listen to me. Find her. -Thing
Ajax: What? Where is she now?
Enid: Idk
Ajax sighed.
Thanks, Thing, I knew I could depend on you.
He quickly excused himself from class, walking hurriedly down the hall as he kept his eyes open for his girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Enid was coughing violently as she held onto the wall for support, a tear rolling down her cheek as she finally coughed up the phlegm that was lodged in her throat. It wasn't where she wanted to be on this Tuesday morning, but here she was. Her headache got worse, and she started to walk again as she looked around, trying to recognize where she was. Her throat burned, and she could hardly hear anything but the dull buzz that surrounded her, an eery silence.
It was bright, the lights were almost blinding as she continued down the hall. Her vision grew cloudier, and she felt herself stumbling as she crashed into the wall, her legs giving out as her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she crumpled into a limp pile of limbs onto the floor.
~~
Ajax had roamed for about 10 minutes without finding anything, and he turned back around and headed down the last hall. He began to lose hope, growing worried as a knot grew in his stomach. He hadn't gotten a text saying she had returned, and he felt his hands getting sweaty when he finally spotted something, or rather someone laying on the ground.
Enid.
Running over to her, he observed her state as he lifted her into his arms. She was cold, sweat beaded at her temple and she looked extremely pallor as his eyes ran over her. Her chest rose and fell slowly, and he sighed with relief at the sight. She fell limply into his arms as he wrapped his arms around her, and he stood up and hurriedly carried her to the infirmary. He knew he wasn't capable of helping her get better, but he would stay with her until she woke up. The girl murmured something, and he looked down and tried to listen, but he couldn't understand a word she was saying.
Her head rested against his chest as he carefully brought her in, and the nurses took her from him as he smiled softly.
"You'll be okay, my love."
~~
Ajax stayed awake all night waiting for her to wake up, the nurse saying she would be awake any minute now as the IV was being fed into her arm, her peaceful expression soothing him as he held her hand.
She had gained some of her color back, that natural blush creeping back onto her cheeks as he leaned his head on her bed. Her hands were warmer, and she no longer had a raging fever.
Wednesday and Thing had stopped by shortly after hearing she had been put under observation, and she stayed a while as they silently waited for the werewolf to wake. He found out a few things about Addams while they waited, but she threatened him and Enid before she left.
"You better wake up soon, Enid. You won't like what will happen if you don't."
He chuckled as he recalled the threat, and he smiled softly down at Enid.
Her eyes fluttered as she suddenly flew upright, looking around as Ajax stood up, breaking out into a grin as she looked over at him. That big, heartwarming smile of hers spread across her face as she reached for him, and he enveloped her in a big hug. They stayed in that position a while, holding each other before they pulled apart, Enid looking up at him with those pretty blue eyes.
"Thank you," she whispered, and he tilted his head at her as he smiled.
"For what?"
"I don't know, for loving me I guess?" Enid giggled, and Ajax smiled.
"You don't have to thank me. Next time, just let me care for you, okay?"
Another smile erupted across her face, and she gave his hand a soft squeeze.
Somehow, someway, she had felt his presence with her as she slept, and that put her at ease.
