Aelia was coughing as well when Chan came storming into the ER. Everyone from the burning house were gathered in one part of the ER, and Chan came directly over to Aelia.
«What the hell is this?! Even when I'm asleep I'm called in because of you?!»
«I'm so-horry our h-h-house burning is such an inconvenience t-to you, dr Bang,» Aelia coughed, still as snarky as ever.
«A fire?»
«Yes. It was set on fire, actually,» she hissed.
«Aelia!» Jongho looked shocked at her.
«Well, it's true! Chan knows I live in a Safe House.»
«Be quiet!» Jongho said, and with a frown, she did, mostly because talking made her cough even more.
«Stupid,» Chan mumbled under his breath as he upped her oxygen and adjusted the mask on her face. «Reckless.»
Aelia just glared at him.
Minutes later the most beautiful man in the world came running into the ER, looking around and quickly approaching the Safe House gang.
«What are you doing here, dr Hwang?» Chan asked.
«I was paged,» he said, looking at the patients. His eyes stopped when they found Aelia. She stared with wide eyes.
«Well, then meet your new protégé; dr Bell,» Chan introduced them.
Dr Hwang's eyes narrowed, and Chan expected some sort of explosion from him. Aelia just tilted her head and stared at him with questioning eyebrows.
«You,» dr Hwang said and pointed to her. «In there.»
«I'm on oxygen, for crying out loud!» she protested.
«If you're able to talk like that, you're okay,» he scowled and went towards a free examination room.
With an eye roll, Aelia took her mask off and followed him. Jongho looked strictly at her, but she pretended not to see it.
«What the hell are you doing here?!» she asked as the door closed behind them and they were alone, no one could neither see nor hear them.
«You paged me.»
«I paged dr Bang and dr Hwang.»
«And here I am.»
«You're dr Hwang?!»
«Yes, Aelia, I'm Hwang Hyunjin. Now, will you explain to me why you are here at this time of night?»
«Our house was set on fire.»
Hyunjin visibly paled.
«Oh my god, Aelia, are you okay?»
«No!» she waved with her arms. «Our house was set on fire, people are unconscious, we had to escape while people were shooting at us... I'm not okay!»
Hyunjin pulled her into a hug. She fought it for only a moment, before letting his warmth embrace her. It still felt familiar.
«I'm sorry. I heard you were starting to work for me tomorrow, but...»
«How did you know I would choose this hospital?»
«I didn't. But I would have found a way to be close to you no matter where you would have worked.»
«I really am a surgeon?»
«Yes, and a damn good one too.»
