"Stop! I know what I'm doing!" Evelyn shouted at her parents. They were in the middle of a mission, as her powers where the only ones that would work. She knew one mistake could cost them the whole mission.
"Okay, just make sure-" her dad started.
Evelyn interrupted, "I know. Make sure to use your energy blast to break the fence, then we can break into his liar."
Phoebe stood there beside her, getting ready to help if needed.
Evelyn took a deep breath and started charging it up. She continued to try and get more energy and make it bigger. "Ugh, come on." She muttered.
"Come on, more energy!". Her mother urged.
"No, it's too much for her!" Phoebe fought.
"It's fine," Evelyn said. She continued charging it up, until it was too much for her. "Ow!"
"Are you okay?" Phoebe asked.
"Yeah, thanks."
"That doesn't matter! We're gonna fail all thanks to you!" Her mom snapped.
"I'm - I'm sorry. I'm trying my best I'm just a little rusty." She apologized.
"Well you're gonna cost us everything!" Her dad snapped. "Just like before."
Evelyn's eyes started tearing up as she followed it with sniffling. She prepared to attempt again.
"Hey, it's okay if you don't want to," her sister said.
"No, I have to." Evelyn replied.
She charged up again, and tried to make it bigger. She was put in pain, but knew she needed to whole her parents yelled at her. Soon, the energy went out, and she fainted.
"Evelyn!" Yelled a familiar voice, "Evelyn!
Evelyn's shaky body shot up as she breathed heavily. "Oh, thanks goodness. It was just a dream."
"Eve, are you okay?" Skylar asked, "You're late for your shift."
"What?" She asked with wide eyes. "Oh no, oh no, oh no," she whispered, checking the time. "Dang it!"
She got ready for the day and started working. It felt like she got zero hours of sleep.
"Hey," Oliver greeted.
Evelyn waved and sat at the computer, "Hey." She rest her elbows and placed her head on them, basically falling back asleep.
Kaz walked into the room, noticing her falling asleep. "Sup, Oliver. Why's she asleep?" He asked, Oliver replying with a shrug. "Hey, Evelyn!" He said, making her wake up while shaking her.
"Ugh, what?" She asked.
"Why were you falling asleep?"
"I just couldn't sleep well. Bad dream." She replied, starting to walk away to a patient.
"What dream?" He asked, staring to follow her.
Evelyn knew he had the best intentions, but was getting annoying. She rolled her eyes, saying, "Nothing. Can you just... Leave me alone?"
Kaz nodded and walked back to Oliver, commenting, "That was weird. Evelyn said it was nothing but come on, it had to be something that bothered her."
"Maybe, but maybe we could just let her be." He replied, continuing to work.
Evelyn continued the rest of the day, shutting out her friends. She waited for them to leave so she could be alone with her thoughts.
She was on her break in the cafeteria, enjoying alone time until Kaz came in.
"Hey," he greeted. "You good?"
"Can you leave me alone?" She snapped, "I'm sorry. I just want to be alone and you won't get the message."
He took a seat across from her, "Well I don't get why you won't tell me or anyone else for that matter. You've told me other things so why can't you tell me this?"
Evelyn sighed, "Because for months I've been bothering you with my life when you probably have your own things to deal with. I feel like a terrible friend."
"You're not a terrible friend," he replied. "But if you don't wanna tell me, you don't have to, don't worry."
"Thanks, I'll just go to my room and sleep or something." She replied. Of course she wasn't going to go back to sleep and possibly have another bad dream, but it was the quickest excuse for her to leave.
