Chapter III
Discoveries
Metropolis Zone Outskirts - Later That Night
Nine frowned as he looked upon the massive force field that enclosed upon what the datapad he'd taken from the wolf soldier, who Nine learned through checking through the aforementioned datapad, was a soldier for what seemed to be a global peacekeeping organization known as the Guardian Units of Nations, or GUN for short, and was the newest member of "Team Dark," which Nine assumed as some form of black ops unit or special forces.
Taken together, that probably meant that Nine would soon have to deal with GUN eventually, and it likely would be a hostile encounter considering he had defeated several of their agents. including a member of their special forces and/or black ops unit. However, Nine would cross that bridge when he came to it. Right now, he had more important things to deal with. Namely, figuring out how to get inside his counterpart's base and using the resources there to make repairs to his outfit, mechanical tails, and other pieces of equipment.
Nine hummed in thought for a moment as he examined the barrier from his current position, trying to figure out how to get past it, only to soon catch sight of what appeared to be a door that led right to the interior of the force field. However, Nine could easily tell that it wasn't going to be as easy as it looked. After all, this was an alternate version of himself that he was dealing with.
Nine began making his way towards the entrance, and as soon as he got close to it, a small pedestal and a pair of the biggest automated sentry guns that Nine had ever seen emerged from the ground, instinctively causing him to tense up and begin running for the hills.
"Please place your finger on the scanner," a computerized voice said.
Slowly, cautiously, Nine placed his index finger on the scanner, only to cry out in pain as something sharp poked it, drawing blood.
"Processing... processing... DNA match! Disabling security and deterrence measures... welcome, Miles!" the computerized voice said as the guns returned to their hiding places in the ground and the entrance leading into the base opened, making Nine incredibly suspicious at how easy it was to get past the barrier.
"Don't look so tense, Nine! Your DNA matched mine! You now have full access to my toys!" a familiar voice said from nearby, prompting Nine to turn in its direction to find the look-a-like from back in the village standing nearby, a grin on his face as he slung his arm on Nine's shoulder, who actually felt the arm's weight on his shoulder, making him feel somewhat uneasy about the specter.
"Now, if, for whatever reason, your DNA didn't match mine, then we'd have a problem," the specter said. "Now then, I believe you wanted to come here in order to conduct some maintenance and upgrade your tails and equipment, yes? Follow me."
With that, the specter walked into the base on his spider-like limbs. After hesitating for a moment, Nine followed him.
Metropolis Zone Prower Base - Inner Sanctum
Nine couldn't believe his eyes as he looked around the room the specter had led him to. In addition to the massive, fancy computer screens that lined the far wall and presumably would allow Nine to access his counterpart's databases, which Nine would of course dig into later, but beyond that, what Nine found in regards to the supplies he needed in order to conduct maintenance and upgrade his tails and equipment were beyond his expectations. All kinds of materials and components for building and maintaining complex machines akin to his tails were ripe for the picking, including what looked like designs for nanorobotics-based cybernetic enhancements.
