I kept thinking about Gloria and about what Dora had said. It didn't sit right with me. So I went around the house and searched for Gloria.
It didn't take long before I found her, sitting in a chair and looking out of the window. She seemed like only her body was here. Her mind had escaped and wandered the world, beyond the mansion.

"Gloria?" I asked hesitantly as I approached her.

Her movements were slow and a bit uncoordinated. "Ah, y/n. Is everything alright?" She asked.

"Yes, I think so. I just wondered if you had the time to talk?" And said and sat down opposite her.

"Of course. What is it?" Even her blinking looked weird.

"About Dandy." I said, and she sighed. A sigh is not of annoyment but sadness. "What was he like as a child?" I asked.

"A wild one. Dora is the only one of the staff to have lasted this long. He drove the others insane." She mumbled.

"How that?" I asked concerned.

"I don't know." She answered what I believed to me truthfully.

"Did he never ask for you? And did you not spend any time with him? Playing his games or anything like that?" I asked carefully not to sound rude.

"He did ask for me once...I sent his governess. After that, he never asked for me again." She said, her voice sounding like glass that is about to break.

"I'm sorry." I said and suddenly felt very uncomfortable.

"Mhm. Do you think I was a bad mother?" She asked and looked out the window.

"I honestly don't know." I said.

We sat in silence until Dora called for dinner.

"We better go. Don't want the food to go cold." I said and gave her a polite smile.
