(Narrator's POV)
(Back on Earth)
"Garnet. We're all family. Please: Tell us what's wrong. And why are you worried about the Pantheon? No one has heard from them in ages!" Pearl said as Connie got up and left.
"Connie, where are you...?" Pearl began to ask.
"Look. Whatever Garnet's about to tell you, I don't want to be here for it. Steven doesn't know about any of this and I don't want my relationship with him to be strained because you told me some Gem secrets that you never told him." She said as she got on Lion and left.
"What is it with her? And who the heck are the Pantheon anyway, Garnet?" Amethyst exclaimed.
" The Pantheon are 4 of the most powerful Gems to ever exist. They were key figures in the Gem War. We lost so many soldiers because of them alone." Garnet explained.
"I remember. Fire Agate alone took out a whole platoon of our soldiers." Pearl said.
"But I don't get it! Didn't Steven's Mom....?" Amethyst began to ask until Garnet shook her head.
"No. Pink never defeated them. In fact, they only withdrew on their own terms due to a pair of casualties. Had they stuck around? None of us would be here now." Garnet explained as Pearl went from worried to downright frightened.
"Garnet. You aren't saying what I think you are….?" The Pale Gem asked as Garnet slowly nodded.
"Yes. If my nightmares are anything similar to Steven's dreams, then these haven't been mere night terrors I've been having but premonitions of what's to come. The Pantheon could very likely be coming to Earth. And if they do….." Garnet began to say until Amethyst cut her off.
"Then we kick their butts and send them back to wherever they came from! There's only 4 of them, right? No problem!" The Purple Gem said as she summoned her whip.
"Amethyst. Did you hear anything I said about what Fire Agate by himself is capable of? You know, the part about how he wiped out an entire platoon of Crystal Gems by himself?!? If just one of them has that level of power, how could we possibly defeat all 4 of them?!?" Pearl exclaimed.
"Because we have the three of us! Lapis isn't going to back down from them either! And I bet if we told him what's going on, we could get Steven–" Amethyst began to say.
"NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT! I WILL NOT RISK LOSING STEVEN TO A MONSTER LIKE DARK AURA ONYX!!!!!" Garnet yelled as the others went quiet.
"I've lost so much because of Dark Aura Onyx. He's taken so many people I cared about away from me……I'll be shattered first before he takes Steven!" The fusion said as the others looked at each other and nodded.
"So what do we do? We can't just roll over and let them beat us down." Amethyst said.
"If they arrive….we fight. I hope it doesn't come to that because we will more than likely be defeated. But at least we'll go down fighting." Garnet said as they all tried to digest all of this information.
(Meanwhile....)
"How much farther to Earth anyway? We can't be that much farther!" Cobalt exclaimed as Beryl gave her look.
"Well you have two options: Hyperspeed is only available through manual control. The speed we're going now is exclusive to autopilot. So unless you feel like steering the ship, then shut your mouth and just be patient, Cobalt." She said as Cobalt growled.
"Hmph! Steering this ship should be simple--" Cobalt began to say until a blade found its way near her Gem. The blade of Fire Agate.
"I suggest you don't touch those controls. It won't be needed anyway." Fire Agate said as Cobalt gave him a look.
"Why won't it be needed?" She asked.
"Because we've arrived. You were too busy being belligerent to notice." Beryl said as the 4 of them saw it:
Planet Earth.
(Meanwhile)
The day went on as normal even after Garnet told the others what was bothering her. It wasn't an easy pill to swallow nor an easy thought to bear: The very idea that 4 of the most deadly Gems any of them had ever faced still being alive and possibly headed to Earth was disturbing.
Nevertheless, the Gems did their best to continue their duties in Little Homeworld despite so much fear running through their minds. Granted, Peridot and Lapis didn't know until after Amethyst told them. And while the Green Gem was terrified, Lapis wasn't so easily frightened, even when it came to a threat like the Pantheon. The Blue Gem swore she'd fight to the bitter end if need be and that may have been one of the two things keeping the Gems sane and stable mentally right now.
The other and most important thing? Steven. The hybrid they all loved dearly and they all swore they'd avoid bringing back into any conflict for his own well being. Garnet was very clear in her orders to not relay any information about the Pantheon to Steven. While the fusion hated doing that(due to it being the biggest reason for the rift that grew between them and Steven over the years), she knew Dark Aura Onyx too well. She knew how he broke Gems mentally. She knew what a monster he truly was and would be shattered first before she allowed Steven to suffer the same fate as so many of her friends did during the Gem War.
"And remember: Fusion is an experience. You are dismissed." Garnet said to her class as they all left just as Connie came up on Lion.
"Brings back memories of when you were teaching Stevonnie." She said as Garnet smiled.
"Stevonnie is still my best student. My only regret with this class is that they've never met Stevonnie. Do you think you and Steven can help out the next time he comes home?" She asked as Connie smiled.
"I'm sure I can convince him. But really, I don't think he'd have a problem with it." She said as Garnet smiled.
"You haven't really explored Little Homeworld, Connie. Did Steven ever show you around? I'm sure Pearl would love to have you assist with her combat class." The fusion said.
"Believe me, I'd love to. Just haven't had the time with my studies and all of that. I wish Steven would have shown me around but…..huh? Look! Is that a ship?(gasps)The Sun Incinerator is back! That means Lars brought the Off Colors! Let's go say Hi, Garnet!" She exclaimed as Garnet smiled until she felt something very dark..
"Garnet, what's wrong? Aren't you coming?" Connie asked as Garnet then ran to the where the ship landed. And as the hatch opened...everyone gasped in pure horror at the sight of Lars' severed head decorated in a crown made of the shards of the Off Colors being clutched by a smirking Cobalt!
"N-No....NO!!! THIS CAN'T BE REAL!!!" Garnet exclaimed in pure fear and anger as 4 Gems walked off the ship, much to the fear of her, Pearl, Amethyst, Connie and Greg. Lapis, Peridot and Bismuth were a bit worried but ready to fight.
"Excuse me: I believe this mouthy organic and his crew of defects belong to you all?" Cobalt said as she tossed Lars severed head to the ground, letting it roll and scatter the Off Colors' shards across the ground.
The Pantheon had arrived.
Phew! Long Chapter! But Garnet's worst fears have come true: The Pantheon have arrived on Earth.
