(Narrator's POV)
Dark Aura Onyx walked across the ship and looked out the window at the stars. For some, that would be relaxing but for him it was simply a way to get into a calmer state of mind in order to focus on the task at hand. He knew what the goal was. It was just a matter of execution.
Still, he was wondering how to break down Steven. The fact that the hybrid was immune to his Dark Aura was something that was heavily on his mind and may prove to be an obstacle. There had to be a way to break him down enough to where the Dark Aura would affect him. Suddenly Dark Aura Onyx thought of something.
Or rather....someone.
"That human that was in my Dark Aura.....Steven seems quite fond of her. I wonder what would be his mindset if she were no longer there? Could it possibly break down whatever immunity he has to my Dark Aura? I wonder...?" The Gem Commander asked himself as he came up with an idea.
"Can't have them getting complacent. So....." Dark Aura Onyx said as Fire Agate approached.
"What are you about to do? I can just tell you've got something in mind." He said as Dark Aura Onyx chuckled.
"You'd be right. Normally, I'd send you to deal with this but I have to stay in form myself. So I'll go down and take care of that human that Steven seems to be so fond of. Perhaps that will break down this immunity he seems to have to my Dark Aura. Keep Cobalt in check until I get back." He said as he teleported away to Earth.
(On Earth.....)
"So that's what they really are? Makes the fight a lot tougher, that's for sure." Connie said as she, Pearl and Steven were talking within the rebuilding of Little Homeworld.
"Yeah. But it definitely explains why they're so powerful. But I didn't ask, Pearl: What about the other two in the Pantheon?" Steven asked.
"Cobalt and Beryl aren't as powerful as Dark Aura Onyx and Fire Agate, but they are just as dangerous and shouldn't be underestimated by any means. You learned firsthand how powerful Cobalt is, Connie." Pearl said, referencing the fight between Connie and Cobalt during the first encounter.
"Yeah but I won't make the same mistake this time, Pearl. I'll be ready for Cobalt this time." Connie said as Steven nodded.
"And I'll be ready for Fire Agate. He won't get the better of me this time----" The hybrid began to say until he was interrupted by a voice..
"Are you sure about that?"
Pearl gasped as Dark Aura Onyx appeared as Steven and Connie got ready for a fight along with Lapis and Bismuth as the Gems Commander just chuckled and summoned dark tendrils from a portal that restrained Lapis and Bismuth!
Pearl went on the attack only for Dark Aura Onyx to dodge into the shadows, confusing Pearl until the Gem Commander reemerged with an uppercut from HER shadow, knocking her out!
"Why are you here?!? You said we had a year!!!!! You monster!!!!" Connie screamed as she charged at Dark Aura Onyx with her sword only for him to dodge and summon his own sword. Steven dashed right at the Gem Commander only for a tendril to grab him by the legs, keeping him on the ground as he could only watch as Dark Aura Onyx blocked each of Connie's strikes before finally......
(SLICE!!!)
A clean slice across the chest leaves Connie bleeding as she collapses to the ground, looking at Steven and her final words being "I love you." as she fell dead and silent as Dark Aura Onyx simply chuckled.
"If that's the best you all have, then we should just put you out of your misery now. But we did say we'd give you a year, so we shall honor that. I'd highly advise training because you're going to need it." He said as he teleported away, causing the tendrils to disappear as Steven and Pearl rushed up to the now dead Connie, tears in both their eyes as the hybrid held his now dead girlfriend in his arms.
"Steven......." Pearl began to say as Steven looked at her.
"No.....I'll be the one to tell her parents. Dark Aura Onyx....no....The Pantheon......they'll regret this." The hybrid said as Pearl shook her head and placed a hand on Steven's shoulder.
"Steven. I was her teacher. It falls upon me to tell her family what became of her. You don't need that responsibility on your heart. We need you ready for what the Pantheon will bring. This was yet another message and we need to be ready to respond once they come back." The Pale Gem said as Steven handed Connie to Pearl as the Pale Gem headed to the Maheswaren household alone to bear the burden of telling Connie's parents that their daughter had died.
Meanwhile, Lapis hugged Steven to comfort him.
"The Pantheon will pay for what they've done, Steven. They have to. We can't show them any mercy." Bismuth said as Steven looked at her and nodded.
Any mercy that the Pantheon would have gotten from the hybrid was officially off the table.
Dark Aura Onyx kills Connie right in front of Steven. This has become beyond personal now. See ya next chapter!
