(Narrator's POV)
Steven sat alone in his room as his mind flashed back to all the memories he had with Connie and how it all just came to an end along with her life. Steven knew at this point, there was no redemption for the Pantheon. Especially not for Dark Aura Onyx.
Truthfully, the hybrid wanted to go after Dark Aura Onyx and the rest of the Pantheon. After what the Gems Commander had done, just sitting here didn't feel right while the Pantheon had a year to possibly hurt others. In all honesty, Steven and the Crystal Gems were the Finale to them. The main course in the Pantheon's feast of destruction.
But Steven wasn't going out without a fight. He had to know what the Pantheon were doing. But before he could go anywhere, Garnet came into the room and hugged him. She had obviously heard what had happened from Pearl.
"So....you heard what happened, I guess...." Steven asked as Garnet nodded.
"Pearl told me after she got back from breaking the news to Connie's parents. According to her, they didn't take it well. Not surprising at all. If we ever lost you, we'd be the same way." The fusion said, kissing Steven on the forehead as the hybrid sighed.
"Garnet..... remember what you told me years ago during Peridot's first few weeks on Earth? How some don't deserve the type of patience that me or Mom give? I think now I realize what you mean. The Pantheon don't deserve patience or mercy. They're monsters. They'll kill any of us and break their own rules to do it." Steven said as Garnet nodded.
"I know. And I'm glad you realize that. When they come back in a year...." Garnet began to say until Bismuth came into the room.
"You two may want to come to Little Homeworld. There's a big disagreement going on between Pearl, Amethyst, Jasper and Lapis." She said as Steven and Garnet nodded and followed the builder Gem.
(Little Homeworld)
"What do you mean we should wait the year out?!? Are you insane, Pearl?!? That will just give those Pantheon jerks even more chances to break their word!" Amethyst snapped as Pearl gave her a look.
"Gem Warriors such as the Pantheon have a code of honor they adhere to, Amethyst. I don't think there's a need to ---" She began to say until Jasper cut her off.
"Honor? I fought Fire Agate, you insipid Pearl! He'll do whatever it takes to defeat his adversaries! Whatever they said about giving you a year was just an excuse to make sure you got complacent!" She snapped.
"For once, I agree with Jasper! Look at what Dark Aura Onyx did to Connie! He came here and murdered her! Do you REALLY think he or the rest of the Pantheon are going to honor their word, Pearl?!! How delusional are you?!?" Lapis snapped.
"I think you're just afraid, Pearl. That's what it is! You're afraid of the Pantheon!!! We're going to end up being picked off because of your cowardice!!!" Peridot snapped as Pearl summoned her spear.
"Call me a coward again and I'll show you just how serious I am, you little----!" Pearl began to say until...
"Enough!!!! All of you stop this instant!!!" Garnet yelled as the 4 Gems went silent at the sight of her, Steven and Bismuth.
"Arguing isn't going to get us anywhere. Now let's say we decided NOT to wait the full year that the Pantheon agreed to. What did you have in mind, Amethyst?" Bismuth asked.
"Simple: We hit them early! I'm spoiling for a fight and these Pantheon jerks have it coming!!! I'm not going to run away from these jerks, no matter how powerful they are!!!!" Amethyst said angrily.
"Same here. It's been a while since I've gone up against Fire Agate. And I owe him for all the times he humiliated me. So I'm joining this fight." Jasper said.
"And you know my answer: I'm not going to let The Pantheon just run all over us without a fight!!!" Lapis snapped.
"Are you all insane?!? You're actually suggesting we go willingly find 4 of the most dangerous Gems in existence and fight them, knowing full well that we'll likely fail?!? Do all of you just WANT to be shattered?!?" Pearl exclaimed.
"Cower if you want, I'd rather go down fighting. What about you two, Steven and Garnet? What do you think?" Lapis asked as Garnet sighed and looked at Steven. Almost as if she was saying:"I'll follow your lead".
"Well. I agree with both your points: We can't just go in and fight them. For starters, we don't even know where they might be. On top of that, assuming we make it past Cobalt and Beryl, we still have Dark Aura Onyx and Fire Agate to worry about. We need an edge to be able to go against them. And based on what you've told me, Pearl, I think I may know how to find that edge even though I know you guys wanted to avoid involving them." Steven said as he headed to the Warp Pad.
"Steven, you can't be serious! You're going to involve the Diamonds?!! Think of the ramifications! What they'll do if----!" Pearl began to say.
"You mean the same ramifications that White caused that LED to us having to deal with this to begin with? When she sealed away Solaria and Lunaria just because she couldn't control them? You could say it's her fault we even have to deal with Fire Agate and Dark Aura Onyx! She made this mess and now I'm going to get her to tell us how to fix it!!!!" Steven snapped as everyone went silent at that. History has shown that it's never a good idea to further push the hybrid if he's angered.
"Steven....just be careful, understand? You don't know how White will react if such a memory comes up for her." Garnet said as Steven nodded.
"I'll be careful. And ready. I wasn't ready when Connie was killed. But I'm going to be ready this time." The hybrid said with determination in his voice as he warped away to Homeworld to confront the Diamonds.
Steven is heading to Homeworld to confront the Diamonds? Will he get what he's looking for? See ya next chapter!
