(Narrator's POV)
Steven woke up on what looked to be a battlefield Looking on the ground, the hybrid noticed that the ground was littered with Gem shards. What on Earth was going on? And where was Garnet? She had to be here with Steven. The hybrid soon got his answer as he saw Garnet be sent flying back from a punch from Dark Aura Onyx!
"Pathetic, fusion. Simply pathetic. Where's all that bravado? That lack of fear? You put on a facade when around those other Crystal Gems but when you're truly faced with your own demise? You show fear like anyone else." The Gem Commander said coldly.
Garnet clawed the ground and struggled to get up....only to see that the dirt in her hands were Gem shards! Recoiling in pure terror, the fusion dropped them as if they were on fire. Once she was up to her feet, she charged at Dark Aura Onyx.....
"Garnet....you wouldn't hurt me, would you?" A voice said as Steven appeared where Dark Aura Onyx was just standing.
"No....I'd never hurt you, Steven.....I love you." Garnet said as "Steven" had tears in his eyes.
"Then why do you have your Gauntlets summoned? What did I do?" He sobbed as the real Steven approached as fast as he could.
"Garnet! That's not me! I'm right here with you! Dark Aura Onyx is messing with your mind!" Steven said as Garnet looked at both Stevens before the one in front of her changed back into Dark Aura Onyx, a dark smirk on his face.
"So youve joined us, Steven. I may not be able to effect you with my Dark Aura, but I can effect those you care about. And that, in many ways, is more effective than attacking you directly. Because that is your true weakness: The compassion you have for pathetic Gems such as this fusion. Look at her and tell me if she's worth caring about." Dark Aura Onyx asked as Steven looked at Garnet before hugging her.
"I'm here, Garnet. Calm down. I'm here with you. We'll get through this together." Steven said, his warmth seemingly relieving Garnet of any fear she had as she stood up and summoned her Gauntlets again as the two stood face to face with Dark Aura Onyx.
"You both will fall to me. Within the Dark Aura, I rule everything. You don't have a chance of hope against me." He said as Steven and Garnet charged at the Gem Commander who blocked both of them effortlessly.
"Is that the best you can do? Did you not hear what I said? In this realm....in MY realm.... you are NOTHING!!!" Dark Aura Onyx said as he sent the two of them back with a dark energy pulse.
"This isn't over!!!! Garnet, let's.....oh no...." Steven said with a gasp as he saw an unconscious Ruby and Sapphire. The dark energy pulse must have been powerful enough to make them unfuse.
"You may be immune to my Dark Aura, but you're not immune to death, Steven Universe. I'll end you just like I did that human you were so fond of..." Dark Aura Onyx said as Steven glared at Dark Aura Onyx, angry Diamonds in his eyes.
"What do you mean? Are you.... talking about Connie? DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT CONNIE!!!!!!!!" Steven roared as the whole area began to quake as the hybrid's energy expelled the dark energy from the Dark Aura much to the stunned shock of Dark Aura Onyx!
"What?!? How is this possible?!? Your energy is ripping the Dark Aura apart!!!!! Stop this now!!!!" Dark Aura Onyx exclaimed as Steven summoned a pair of spiked bubble fists and charged right at the Gem Commander, pummeling him with a flurry of crushing blows until his Gem finally cracked under the pressure and gave out.
(Outside)
"GAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Dark Aura Onyx screamed in pure agony as his form lit up with pink energy until he finally imploded from the immense energy, leaving his Gem shards on the ground.
At that moment, Steven and Garnet woke up to the concern of the others but also relief.
"We did it!!!!!! It's finally over! The Pantheon are gone!!!" Pearl cheered as Steven smiled and looked at Garnet, who kissed the hybrid on the forehead.
"Thank you, Steven." She said as Steven blushed and smiled as he bubbled Dark Aura Onyx's shards and sent them back to the Temple before heading back to the Warp Pad with the others as they all headed back home to Earth.
(Epilogue:Two days later)
"So what now, Steven? You going to go back on the road?" Amethyst asked as Steven shook his head.
"Nah. I think I'll hold off on going back on the road for now. Besides, my therapist even said that being on the road right now wouldn't be the best idea." The hybrid said as Pearl smiled.
"Did you go to Homeworld to check in with the Diamonds?" She asked.
"That and return Solaria and Lunaria's power to the statues." Steven said as Amethyst pouted.
"Aww why'd you go and do that? You literally had the power of the Sun and Moon Goddesses at your fingertips." She said as Pearl rolled her eyes.
"Amethyst, that's too much power for one person to have. I'll stick with my own powers, thank you very much." Steven said as Pearl smiled at the two of them.
"Well I talked to Peridot and she said the rebuild process for Little Homeworld is going better than even she thought it would. It should be back up and running within a couple of months." She said as a thought struck Steven.
"Hey Pearl. Where's Garnet?" The hybrid asked.
(In Garnet's room)
Garnet was leaned against the wall as she gazed at the bubble containing the shards of Dark Aura Onyx. She decided to keep the bubble as a trophy of sorts. Something to remind her of a battle that she thought was impossible to win yet was won anyway.
