(Narrator's POV)
(WHAM!!!)
"Come on, runt! If this is the best you've got, then you won't even make it past Cobalt, let alone Fire Agate or Dark Aura Onyx!!!" Jasper snapped as she and Amethyst were in the middle of training in the woods in preparation for the Pantheon's return.
And while she was getting battered both physically and verbally, Amethyst refused to give up and kept on pushing herself, even if she couldn't stand Jasper's constant verbal barbs towards her. All it did was fuel the Purple Quartz to keep fighting.
"HAAAA!!!" Amethyst yelled as she charged right at Jasper with a series of blows that Jasper easily blocked. Amethyst then tried to use her whip to swing a nearby boulder towards Jasper only for the Perfect Quartz to utterly smash it with her fist......which gave Amethyst an opening as she came down upon an unsuspecting Jasper with a kick that sent her back.
"Heh. Clever, runt. Real clever. I can't lie. You're a lot better. Not as good as Steven, but you're not bad." Jasper said with a chuckle as Amethyst gave her a look.
"I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that. But I have to ask: None of us ever did know why Steven was out here with you for those three days. What happened between you two?" She asked.
"He came to me for training. He wanted to learn how to control his powers when they were unstable. I admit I never expected to bring out of him what I did. He truly is a Diamond." Jasper said as Amethyst shook her head.
"No. He's Steven and don't you forget it. But let me ask you this: You said you fought Fire Agate before? When?" She asked.
"Back when Red Diamond was still around. Her and Pink.... didn't see eye to eye. Yellow would suggest to have their best Gems duel each other. So it was me vs Fire Agate. And he won each time we fought. Never have I faced an opponent with such strength and skill and ruthlessness. Fire Agate was made to be the perfect soldier in ever way you can imagine: Strength, Skill, Tactics, you name it. He has it. He's also got other abilities that just put him above any ordinary Gem. I never stood a chance against him, but I fought as hard as I could for my Diamond." Jasper explained.
"But what about that other? Dark Aura Onyx. The one Garnet's so scared of?" Amethyst asked as Jasper sighed.
"Regrettably I don't know much about Dark Aura Onyx other than he was the top Gem of Black Diamond. Now are you ready to continue or are you going to just ask more questions?" She asked as Amethyst chuckled as the two continued training.
(Meanwhile)
After his date with Connie, Steven headed back to the Temple to speak with Pearl, hoping she had some information on the Pantheon. Particularly Fire Agate and Dark Aura Onyx.
"Hello Steven. How was your date?" Pearl asked as Steven came inside.
"It was nice. But I need to talk to you, Pearl. What do you know about Dark Aura Onyx and Fire Agate? At least what you can tell me?" The hybrid asked as Pearl sat down on the couch and motioned for Steven to sit next to her. Once he did, she looked at him with a concerned look.
"Dark Aura Onyx and Fire Agate are.... different than other Gems. They answered to Diamonds but not the ones you're familiar with." Pearl said as Steven gasped. There were OTHER Diamonds?
"Wait. There were other Diamonds than Yellow, Blue, White and Mom? Who were they?" Steven asked as Pearl took a deep breath.
"Steven. What I'm about to tell you is something you may not believe but it's also something your mother and I both witnessed: Red Diamond and Black Diamond were the Diamonds of Fire Agate and Dark Aura Onyx, respectively. But....they weren't actual Diamonds." Pearl said.
"What do you mean? If they weren't actual Diamonds, what were they?" Steven asked.
"Have you ever wondered why Fire Agate and Dark Aura Onyx are so strong? Fire Agate was strong enough to overpower you and you have the powers of a Diamond. The reason for that is this: Red Diamond and Black Diamond...were actually Solaria and Lunaria, the Sun and Moon Goddesses. Beings higher than White Diamond." Pearl said as Steven gasped.
"What?!? But what happened to them?!?" Steven asked.
"White Diamond sealed them away and used fragments of their full power to create lesser versions of them: Red Diamond and Black Diamond. And neither of them had any recollection of who they were before. If White couldn't control it? She feared it. Red Diamond and Black Diamond then later made Fire Agate and Dark Aura Onyx." Pearl said as Steven was in utter shock.
"But if Fire Agate and Dark Aura Onyx are that powerful.... literal descendants of Solaria and Lunaria...how do we beat them, Pearl?" The hybrid asked. Now that he knew the truth, it was becoming more and more hard to believe that Fire Agate or Dark Aura Onyx could be defeated.
"Steven. They do not have the full power of Solaria and Lunaria. They are beatable like any other Gem, no matter what arrogance they spew out. We'll win this together. You've got to believe that." Pearl said as she pulled Steven in for a hug and kissed his forehead.
"I know. It won't be easy but I know we can do it." Steven said as he just reminded in Pearl's embrace for a moment.
Even with this new revelation, it wouldn't change anything: The Pantheon needed to be defeated no matter what.
