"Sir?" One of the black-clad men spoke up, waking Adriel from his near slumber as he focused on the conversation. The leader glanced over but made no reply. "He has no pulse."
Adriel's heart missed a beat as he felt himself go cold. If he had no pulse, that only meant one thing.
"Let him check." The leader gestured at Adriel, and one of them cut his bonds as he slowly got to his feet and walked over, feeling all eyes on him as he crouched beside Crowley. He put his hand to Crowley's neck and realized that it was cold, as he waited to listen for a pulse.
He waited for over a minute, before giving up, realizing that nothing would happen. "He's dead." He looked up briefly, standing up, trying his hardest to hide the sadness that had come over him. How was he to explain this to Halt? The Commandant had died on his watch. The leader stared at him, then knelt beside the man to check, and realized that Adriel wasn't lying.
Crowley truly was dead.
