You sat at the table next to a window, dressed in knee-high leather boots and with your best coat on. For once you actually had the energy to curl your hair & put on some make-up, trying your hardest to enjoy this day and make the best out of it. For the children.

Hello, Simon!” you heard the barista call out to the tall Brit who was next.

It’s the yearly autumn-city-festival, and the kids wanted to go. In all your years living here you have never heard of it but raising two really curious 4-year-olds changes you and Marla has been begging for weeks now.

“Hey, Erika. Good to see you.” you heard the familiar, thick accent say in the distance. You secretly glanced over to him making conversation with the woman standing behind the counter, Archy and Marla both standing next to him and peeking over it curiously.

Simon was a regular in this café, that you knew. What you did not know was that all their baristas were fucking models. Black curls in a nice up-do and the most stunning smile you have ever seen, she was absolutely breathtaking. You tried to read Simon’s face. Half-lidded, lazy eyes as usual.

“Oh, the autumn festival?! That’s amazing! I also considered going!”

Yeah, of course she’s great with kids too. Marla’s eyes carried a sparkle as she made conversation with the stranger, telling her all about the plushies you can win and the big firework in the evening.

Then followed Ghost's raspy voice.

“You could go after your shift, no?”

You focused back on your hands that were nervously fiddling on top of the table, you haven’t even noticed until now. Blinking a few times you tried to think of something else when Archy’s giggle would steer your attention back to the counter.

“Oh no, I’ll be working the whole day today and afterwards I’ll be knocked out, haha!,”

Did she really have to laugh that loud?

“…, in my bed is where you’ll find me after my shift, binging my stupid show and eating ice-cream,…”

Yeah, who cares?

The Brit hummed quietly as he paid and she prepared their order.

“What are you watching currently?”

What?! Ghost doesn’t care about any fucking shows! Why would he ask her that-

Once they both laughed together, that’s when you could not ignore the raging fire in your gut anymore. You bit your lip harshly and watched with furrowed brows.

“A TEDDY, PA!” Archy yelped as she slid the tiny cup of hot chocolate towards him with some latte-art on top.

Right.

“Now, would yer look at that? Ain’t Erika sweet?” Ghost patted the back of his son.

R i g h t.

“Thank you, Erika!” the sound of your daughter as she got hers, smiling equally wide as her brother. Your lips trembled and you felt like your whole head is about to explode.
