As it’s gotten late and with the kids begging to stay, you gave in and decided to spend the night at Simon’s place. It’s not like you wouldn’t like his presence, after all.

The kids were already fast asleep and Simon was taking a shower. You let Grace know that you’re gonna stay at his place tonight, as you were currently occupying hers with the children.

GRACE

O M G, IS IT WHAT I THINK IT IS?! xxx

You rolled your eyes at her message but you could not hold back on a smirk forming on your lips. You didn’t know what the situation between you and your ex-partner is, all you knew was that you missed him. Dearly. And that you enjoyed every second spent close to him.

Maybe it was pretty obvious.

Before you could reply, you heard the bathroom door slide open and a damp Ghost approaching the bed with only a towel wrapped around his waist.  You put the phone away and smiled, making yourself small on the bed and awaiting him patiently.

“I’ll head over to the other apartment,” his words cut through you like the sharpest dagger.

“Uhm…You…How come?”

“I need my time with this. Can’t behave like nothing ever happened… Now, don’t get me wrong,” he took the towel off his hips as he was positioned with his back to you and digged through his drawers. He was absolutely marvellous from behind, your eyes instantly sank to look at his firm butt.

“...I like having you and the twins around, it’s all I ever wanted…You’re all I have…” he got out a pair of black underwear and put them on. You watched his defined back muscles move like he’s a well-oiled machine, your heartbeat hammering at what’s being said. You’re not gonna spend the night in the same bed as him?

“…’s not easy...” He closed the drawer and turned around to you, waiting for some response.

You nodded, suddenly feeling so very small and out of place. How dumb of you. How selfish. Whilst you were sitting around, thinking that all is good again now that you left your dentist-boyfriend, Simon was still healing from the pain you’ve caused him. That stupid, selfish mistake you made a year ago.

“I understand…” you murred. There was nothing else to be said, no reason to fight or force an argument. He was right and those were his boundaries. It all made total sense.

He nodded and put on a robe, clearing his throat on the way to the main door and muttering a low “Good night”. You watched his tall figure disappear into the darkness and shut your eyes once he had left to sleep in the other flat. Throwing your face into the pillow, you cursed yourself out for what you’ve done.

Waking up in the dark, you needed a minute to adjust. You weren’t used to this apartment anymore, so you needed time to remember where you were and why you’re alone in that bed.

Time you did not have as a wheezing sound could be heard in the distance, sending immediate terror down your whole body.

You immediately jumped up and ran towards the kids’ space where a sobbing Marla sat next to her panting brother. There was not a single, distracting thought in your head. Autopilot. You knew this too well by now. You saw his inhaler lying on the floor and sat down next to him, supporting his posture.

“Did you already use your inhaler, baby? It didn’t help?” you stroked his back slightly. Archy shook his head and gasped irregularly, trying to talk inbetween but there was no voice.
