"Thank you very much, looks grand…” Ghost smiled as the confectioner presented the pink flamingo cake that you had ordered. She started explaining the process of making the cake to him. He couldn’t care less, to be honest. But he knew better than to interrupt the passionate baker talking about her work.

As he handed her the bills, she asked him who it was for.

“Children’s birthday. They love…These.” He referred to the  fondant-flamingos on top.

“Awwww, so cute! They’re happy to have a father like you,”

He nodded as he put his wallet away and picked up the cake box.

“So it’s twins?” she continued, offering help with the box but he had already managed to carry it.

“Indeed. Girl ‘n a boy. Proper rascals.” He got his car keys out his pocket, making sure to balance the box right as in not to drop it.

“Aww, they must be a handful,”

“ ‘s alright now, we get along well ‘n all… Theyre angels most of the time...”

The woman walked over to open the door for him and eyed him lustfully.

“They must be happy to have a father like you,”

Ghost gulped at the sudden statement. Was she flirting?

“Well, am often on duty. Sure are better father’s out there…” He was now standing outside,

“…, Thank you for the cake again, lovely work. They’re gonna love it.”

“Whenever you need me, Mr. Riley.” She murred as she sent him a wink and closed the glass door of her bakery.

What the fuck was that?

“FLAMINGOOOO!” Archy yelped as Ghost entered with the cake. Marla clapped furiously at the sight and the twins would jump up and down until the lieutenant positioned it in front of them on the table.

“Now you both take yer time…Concentrate…Make a wish, right? Then you blow out the candles t o g e t h e r. You hear that, Marla?”

Marla nodded with a pout. She’d always blow out the candles first as she was pretty impatient and Archy needed a little longer with his weak lungs.

Both kids looked at each other and smiled brightly, closing their eyes to think about what to wish for. Ghost shook as the flash of your camera went off to snap a picture of them sat around the cake.

Everything felt a bit too much today for him.
Too loud, too colorful, too bright.
But he sure enjoyed seeing his kids happy, so it was all worth it.

Marla and Archy would both whisper things to each other before giggling and blowing out the candles together, leaving the rest of you clapping.

You were all celebrating at Grace’s place as you were still very much homeless and Ghost did not like visitors at his. The twins had some friends over from kindergarten and it was all a very jolly birthday so far, everything was running smoothly. You got along well with the other parents, finally exchanging some tips and struggles of being a parent. And boy, there was a lot you did not know.

Ghost mostly kept to himself or the kids whenever they’d need him. Sometimes he’d also stand in some corner with König, both men observing the whole scenery and chatting quietly like guardian angels.
