Vol. 3 Ch. 27 A New Nightingale

Your POV

I woke up in an unfamiliar room, lying in a bed, still wearing my clothes. I sat up and looked around a bit confused, noticing that it was around noon. As I sat up. I slowly began to recall the last thing I remembered, That's right. I regenerated after the events at Beacon, then the TARDIS brought me here, and I passed out from the post-regeneration exhaustion after exiting the TARDIS.

Just then, the door opened and I saw none other than River Song enter the room. Noticing that I was awake, she said, "Hello, Sweetie." I rolled my eyes and said, "Hello, River." She pulled over a chair and sat down as she said, "How do you feel?" I sighed and answered, "Like a completely different person, but then again, that's technically accurate. But that aside, how did you even know that I'd be here, River?"

She smiled and replied, "Yourself from the future gave me a set of coordinates that brought me to this place one day ago. With those coordinates, you had also given me a message. All it said was that Beacon had fallen and that it had changed you. When I saw you pass out yesterday, it made sense what you had meant."

I nodded and said, "You know the last time I saw you, you did mention something to me too, something that makes perfect sense to me now." River smiled as she put a finger on her lips and said, "Spoilers." I nodded as I thought to myself, River had told me that the next time we'd meet, I'd find myself in an unfortunate yet familiar situation. She was obviously referring to me regenerating.

Then River pulled me from my thoughts as she said, "So, Nightingale, what do you plan to do now?" I took a deep breath and said, "I'm going to find Weiss. I need her to know that I'm okay." River raised an eyebrow and said, "Weiss? Isn't that the girl you mentioned when I was helping you fix your TARDIS?"

I nodded and said, "Yes. I love her more than anything. I just hope that she'll accept this new me." River gave me a reassuring look as she said, "You must really trust this Weiss girl a lot." Recalling a memory with Weiss, I sighed to myself before replying, "I told her about the Moment. That's how much I trust and love her. I even told her my name."

River looked stunned for a moment before she said, "I see. Well, I guess I'll be off then, seeing that you're awake now. Unless there's something else I can help you with." I nodded and said, "Well, there is one thing. Whose house is this?" River smiled and replied, "You'll see for yourself when you leave the room. Until next time, Nightingale."

With that being said, River stood up as she inputted some coordinates into her Vortex Manipulator and left. I made my way out of the room and down the staircase at the end of the hallway. When I got downstairs, I didn't see anyone around, but I saw a few pictures hanging on the far wall, some of them had a couple of familiar people in them, specifically Ruby and Yang.

Realizing that this house must be their dad's house, I realized why the TARDIS had brought me here so quickly. Hearing some movement from behind me, I turned around to see Taiyang, Ruby and Yang's father, enter the house. Walking up beside him was Ruby, who had a leash in her hand, with the leash attached to a dog collar on the black and white corgi that walked up as well.

They all three noticed me and Tai spoke first as he said, "Glad to see you're awake now." Before I could say or do anything, I felt something shorter than me latch onto me. I looked down to see Ruby hugging me, which made me smile a bit as I hugged her back. Then Tai spoke up again and said, "Your friend, River Song, explained everything to us, Nightingale. Glad to know that you're still with us."

I smiled a bit more and said, "Thanks for being so understanding." I looked down at Ruby and said, "You can let go now, Ruby." She reluctantly let go and parted from the hug. Then she looked up at me and said, "Even though River explained everything to us, I'm still having a bit of trouble on fully believing that you're the same Nightingale that was at Beacon."

I knelt down and said, "I know that I don't look or sound like the same person, but I'm still the Time Lord known as the Nightingale. If you'd want, I can let you here both of my heartbeats." Ruby nodded, so I said, "I thought you'd be alright with that. I just need to grab something from the TARDIS real qui─Oh, wait, I already have it on me."

I pulled out my stethoscope from one of the inside pockets of my long coat and handed the listening end to Ruby. She put them in her ears as I carefully guided the other end to each of my two hearts, allowing her to hear the two separate heartbeats. After hearing the heartbeats, she slowly took the listening ends of the stethoscope out of her ears and said, "Two different heartbeats, which means two hearts. That means it really is you."

I smiled as I took the stethoscope from her and put it back in my coat pocket. Ruby wiped away a couple tears that started going down her face and said, "Blake said that you were killed before you could regenerate, so how did you still survive?" I sighed and said, "That's a story for another time. As of right now, I'm a new person. A new version of the Nightingale. A new me. I'm not quite sure what kind of person I am yet, still testing the waters a bit. But for right now, I just want to know one thing. Where's Weiss?"

Ruby let out a sigh and replied, "Weiss' father... came for her." Confused, I responded and asked, "Huh? What do you mean by that?" Ruby looked at me and replied, "No one outside of Vale knows what happened here. Before the tower fell, the last thing people saw was Atlas attacking innocent people and Grimm destroying the city. Everyone's scared. No one knows who to trust. So, Weiss' father came to take her back to Atlas, where he thinks it's safe. She's gone."

I clinched my fists and said, "That's not going to stop me. I think I might have a good idea on what kind of person I am now. I'm the kind of person that'll do whatever he can to save everyone he cares about, especially the ones he truly loves."

Tai smiled at me and said, "From what I've heard, that sounds like how you were before, only this time you seem much more mature about it." I smiled and said, "I guess I am. Well then, I've got a girl to go see. But I'm sure that we'll meet again, especially you, Ruby." Ruby hugged me once more, but not nearly as long as before, then I turned to Tai and said, "I appreciate you allowing me to sleep off my post-regeneration exhaustion." Tai smiled and said, "Consider it my way of thanking you for saving Ruby and Yang in the forest over 12 years ago."

I made my way back over to the TARDIS and stepped inside. I started flipping different switches and levers as the TARDIS entered into the Time Vortex once more. Then I began to set my destination, setting the location for the Kingdom of Atlas and the time for a rough estimate of around a week or two after the Fall of Beacon. As the TARDIS began exiting the Time Vortex, I thought to myself, I really hope I don't overshoot my time destination again.
