KADE

I was home, and I was stoked to be back.

My little brother was getting married to his high school sweetheart in two days, and I couldn't be more proud of him.

The thought of the wedding made me nervous as I knew Brielle was returning for it.

Dominic told me so and was more intrigued when he told me she would be going alone as her boyfriend couldn't attend, something about working.

I knew I hurt her back in school and didn't mean to.

Brielle and I were friends through school and did everything together. Dominic was amongst the friends we hung out with; we were inseparable.

When I turned fifteen, my father and I chatted about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, and I told him what I wanted to do, and that was to join the army.

My father was shocked, but after an entire summer of working out, I knew I had won him over.

I trained my ass every day over the last summer and saw the difference in my body; even he did. I needed to prove to him that the army was what I wanted and wanted to do with my life.

I only saw Brielle a few times that summer, as she visited her grandparents at their beach house every summer. I usually went with her, but I didn't that year as I wanted to prove to my father that I wanted to be in the army.

Everything changed for me when I returned to school; girls would come up and ask me out, and I was flattered.

I only had eyes for one girl, Brielle, but that all changed when I found out she fancied me like the others.

Don't get me wrong, I love her more than anything and even fancied her, but I didn't want to lose my friend then; I needed her. She was my everything, and I could see getting old with her, having children together, but not yet. I wanted a fun, and that's what I did.

So, I did what every man did; I made a dick move and got myself a girlfriend. I wanted her in my life as my friend through school, so I didn't want to lose my friendship with her. She knew everything about me except what I wanted to do with my life.

Brielle didn't mention that she had feelings for me; I could see it in how she acted around me, but we both changed over the following few months of being in school.

I had a girlfriend, and she felt like the third wheel; even when I tried to get her involved when we were all hanging around together, she stepped back, and soon, she was out of my life, and I was with all the popular crowds, while Brielle went in the opposite direction of me. I had more friends while she was away from all of it.

Dominic and I noticed a change in her, but we never knew why. She would ignore me and avoid me as much as she could.

I lost my best friend.

I didn't understand what had caused her to throw our friendship away.

The last year of school came and went, and Brielle had left me altogether, not even speaking a single word to me.

I tried but soon got tired of trying with her and moved on.

I finished with my girlfriend, Rebecca, which didn't end well. After that summer, I enlisted and never looked back.

When I came back from training camp, I found out that Brielle had moved in with her grandparents and started college near them, which shocked her family as to why she would leave.
