KADE
I wasn't planning on coming with Dominic and Larissa to breakfast with Brie, but Larissa insisted, and I couldn't tell her no.
I stared back at the eyes that captured my heart all those years ago. Brie looked pale like she had seen a ghost.
"Brie," Dominic said, waving his hand in front of her face. Brie looked at him and cleared her throat. "Sorry," she murmured.
She moved over to the window as her sister slid in beside her. I went over to the other side and sat opposite her.
Brie's eyes went to me, but she looked away when she saw me look back at her.
This was a bad idea, and I glanced toward my brother, who looked on with concern. His eyes met mine, but he shrugged.
Why the hell was she acting like this?
I looked at Brie and kept my eyes trained on her.
"I'm sorry we are late," Larissa said, not noticing how uncomfortable her sister was. "We had to get up early to do some last things to do, and then there was mum ringing me."
Brie stared at her and nodded.
"It's okay," she whispered.
Larissa looked at her and frowned.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
Brie looked at her.
"Nothing," she said, clearing her throat and sitting up slightly. "It's nice to see you both."
I stared at her as her eyes went to Dominic. She smiled.
"Hey, Dom," she said. "Long time no see. How are you doing?" I felt my brother move up, but I kept my eyes on Brie.
"I'm doing great," he said. "How have you been? It's been a long time." Brie nodded and kept her eyes on him, but every so often, she would look at me. Her cheeks flushed slightly as if she had been caught staring.
I love that redness in her cheeks.
I loved making them go that color.
"I've been great," she said. "I have not long finished my degree, and now I am back to stay."
That sounded like music to my ears.
I know I moved to the next town over, but I promised my old man that I would come every day to see him and mum; now I had another person I would try to come back home to see, and this one was more special.
I must have been staring at Brie too long as I heard her clear her throat again, making me look back at her and catch her frowning.
"What?" she asked, pulling a face.
I shrugged as the corners of my lips hitched up slightly, trying not to smile.
"You changed," I said.
Brie huffed.
"So have you," she said, eyeing me.
I felt my heart spike as her gaze lingered on my arms more than usual. Her eyes went to mine, and she looked over at Dominic.
"So, how are you feeling about getting married to my baby sister?" she asked, smiling.
I looked over to my brother, who had a huge grin. He looked like the cat who got the cream.
"Oh, you know I have won gold with her," he said, making her laugh slightly.
"Are you ready for her snoring and nagging?" she asked, which made Larissa look at her in shock, but with a hint of a smirk. "Hey!" she said. "I don't snore!" I chuckled. Out of all the two things Brie had said, Larissa picked up on her snoring. Nagging was her favorite thing to do, and we all knew about it, especially since Dominic asked her to be his wife.
