Night came quickly. Everyone was gathered by a fire. All except for Mom and Dad. My father fell asleep in Wolf Form by the tent, and my mom was with him. He seemed fine though. The only problem is, those wounds aren't healing. I watched my Mom gently dab a wound with a leaf. The only movement from him was an ear twitch.

"Karli?" I look over to see Hayden standing there. "Come." He said to me with a smile leading me back to the rest. I walked to the fire, to hear Astrid talking.

"Karli, have you ever heard the story of how your father was banished from the Wolf Pack?" She asked.

I shake my head. "No," I answered. "What'd he do?" I ask.

"Nothing bad! Snotlout challenged him! He cheated, and your Father lost, then Snotlout Banished him, as revenge." Astrid explained.

"Revenge?" I ask.

"Snotlout didn't want to be a Wolf, but he was dying, so Hiccup... Sorry... Your father turned him to keep him alive." She told me. "But Snotlout didn't want that. So to get back at him, he killed your Grandfather, and poisoned your Grandmother, our former Alpha." He did all that because my dad tried to save his life? What a horrible thing to do. "Then the day came when Snotlout challenged your father. He used your father's weakness against him, and beat him in a fight."

"Weakness?" I ask.

"His fear," Vitani told me.

Fear. He's scared? "Of what?"

"Of losing someone else he loved in the future. Snotlout promised him an eternity of misery until he died, and banished him." Astrid told me.

"That's horrible," I say.

"Now, he has trust issues. He never trusted us." I see what they mean, he really does have trust issues. I look over to them. Mom was poking Dad in the head, trying to wake him up. Dad's ear only twitched. Those wounds were still pretty bad. I think for a moment. The wounds stopped healing after he was injected with that virus. It's the virus that's preventing him from healing.

Dad's head suddenly shot up, looking startled. Then I realized something. He hasn't eaten in eight hours. "Hiccup?" Mom asked quietly. He didn't respond. His gaze was set on the other wolves. Somehow he managed to fight his urge to kill and pulled a dead Squirrel I left there for him, over with his paw. Mom stood up, slowly walking to me. "Those wounds just won't heal," she sighed.

"I think I know why?"

"Why?" Mom asked me silently.

"The wounds stopped healing after he was caught and injected with this virus," I say. "So, maybe it's the virus preventing him from healing," I say.

"Karli, the gash on his shoulder is still there from his fight with Hayden, it should be gone by now."

"No, he didn't have enough energy to heal that wound after the fight, and right after that he was caught."

She sighed. "Maybe your right." She said looking to him. "Just leave him be though. He's sore."

"Yeah, I will.." I say to her. "But I wanna talk to him."

"Okay," she told me, walking over to the fire.

I walk to Dad, only to hear him snarl. "Dad, I'm not going to steal your food," I say to him. He's losing his mind. If he thinks I'm going to steal his food, he's going insane.

"Good. I'm starving." He told me. I sit down beside him.

Now that I'm closer to him, I can see each wound easily. "Is it true?" I ask.

"Is what true, Karl's?"

"What they were talking about, with you and your cousin?"

He sighed. "Yes, it's true."

"He took your place as Alpha, then banished you," I say.

"Yeah, he did."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be, it wasn't your fault." He sighed. "It was mine... For being weak."

"What?"

"He challenged me, three weeks after my mother died. I was still lost in the world of nothing." He told me. "So, as they said, he used my weakness against me." I stayed there, silent for a moment until Dad flicked me with his tail. "You should get some sleep." He told me.

"Yeah, I know. But I was going to go hunting." I say.

"Why?"

"Because I want to. And I'm going for you." I say. "Because you look a little injured,"

He looked at me, then sighed. "Okay. Just don't wander too far." I smile a little, as he put his head back down. With that, I run into the woods, alone.
