I sat alone at Lunch the next day. In the corner, where no one can bug me. Riley and Amber sat with there other friends, which doesn't matter. Sometimes, I really do enjoy some peace and quiet. I pick apart the grilled Cheese I got from the Café. Stuck to the cheese was a pickle. Who the heck puts Pickles in a Grilled Cheese? God, now I know why Dad prefers Fresh Kill over Human Food. I shove my tray away in disgust. Just because I can eat Human food, doesn't mean I always like it. Besides, I'm not hungry for Human slop today.

I feel like Hunting, but I know I can't right now. I don't have enough time in a lunch period, and I rather not come back smelling of Blood and Dead Corpses. I take out a bag of skittles, picking out my favorite ones. Only the Blue and Green ones.

"-- Why are you alone?" I hear someone ask. I look up to see Hayden standing there with his tray.

"I like being alone," I say.

"Hm," he started. "Do you mind if I join you in your loneliness?" I ask.

"Not at all." He sat across from me, then looked at my tray.

"Not hungry?" He asked.

"I don't eat a lot," I say. After a while, I finally get the nerve to say something else. "Are you busy tonight?" I ask.

He looked at me. "No, why?"

"... Because I was wondering..." I start. "I was wondering if you'd like to come over after school?"

"To your house?"

"Yeah, I thought we could get to know each other more.." I start. "You know. Other than in school" I start.

He looked at me for a moment. "That'd be nice." He said.

I look at him for a moment... He -- He actually said yes. "Wow, okay. Cool!" I say, not realizing what I said.

He looked at me then nodded slowly. "Cool."

<•>•<•>

"How long have you lived here?" Hayden asked me as we walked through the forest towards my house.

"Seven years," I say.

"Seven?"

"Mhm."

"You must know a lot about this place then?" He made a point.

"More then you think," I say.

He laughed a little. "You're pretty funny!" He said.

"But -- I didn't say anything funny," I say.

"I know," he said. "But even if you don't try, your still funny."

I fight myself not to blush. "Really?" I ask.

"Yeah, Really!"

"Oh, well thanks," I say to him. He didn't reply. I look around the woods, fighting my urge to shift and chase some prey. But I know I can't. I'm with a Human. He can't know my secret. "Oh look, we're here!" I say snapping myself out of my thoughts.

He looked at my house for a moment. "You live here?"

"Yeah."

"I walk by this house every day."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Well, follow me," I say walking to the house.

"What about your parents?" He asked.

"What about them?"

"Do they know I'm here?"

"Yeah, they do," I say. "Don't worry, there only a little weird," I add, as a joke.

"Are they now?"

"Nah, they're perfectly fine," I say walking into my house. "I'm home!" I call Closing the door behind Hayden. No reply. "They are probably out back," I say. "We spend a lot of time outside," I say to him, walking towards the sliding door. "Knowing this family," I mutter under my Breath.

"What?"

"Nothing," I say as I walk to the back door, sliding it open. Mom was fixing the garden again, and thankfully Dad was sitting on the Broken Log in the far end of our Backyard, rather than in a Tree. He looked bored though. Thank god, he's agreed to do this for me. I know how he and Mom felt about me bringing a normal Human here. "Hello?" I call, thinking they didn't hear me the first time.

Mom looked up. "Oh, hi Karli."

"Hey, Dad!" I call to him hoping I'd get his attention.

"Hey, Darling!"

It went silent after that. "I have Hayden with me!" I say.

My Mother stopped what she was doing, looking up. "This is Hayden?" She asked.

"Mhm."

She stood up. "It's nice to meet you." She said.

"It's nice to meet you too... Uh..." Hayden trailed off.

"Just call me Elsa." I look at Dad. He looked like he was focused on Hayden or something. Like there was something about him that was bugging him. Mom turned to him after a bit. "Hiccup?"

Hayden's expression changed as soon as she said my Dad's name. "What?" Dad asked.

"Get over here."

"I'm fine here," he narrowed his eyes.

My mom looked at me for a moment. "Hold on," She walked over to him. They whispered to each other for a minute, then finally walked over.

"Hayden, this is my Dad," I say after a minute of awkwardness.

I heard my dad mumble something. His mood just changed like that. "Dog." I heard Hayden growl quietly.

"Blood Sucker!" My dad growled back.

"Hayden?" I ask. "What's going on?"

He finally snapped out of his little trance. "Nothing."

I turn to my dad. He didn't look happy. "Dad, what's wrong?"

I saw the corner of his mouth twitch. "Nothing, Karli. Nothing's wrong."

I look to mom, she looked as confused as I did. My dad and Hayden had this dark look. They were staring at each other, but I didn't look like the friendly kind of way... They looked like they wanted to tear each other apart.

Mom tapped Dad's shoulder gently. "What's wrong?" She asked.

"Nothing Elsa... I'm fine..." He tried to say calmly, his gaze still locked with Hayden's "Perfectly Fine."

"... Okay." She whispered backing away.

The silence fell again. "Karli?" My dad finally asked.

"Yeah?"

"Can I speak to you little Friend for a moment?" He asked. "Alone?"

"Uh..." I look to Hayden for a moment.

"Sure." He replied. Dad backed away slowly as if he didn't want to turn his back on Hayden. Okay, Dad is actually starting to scare me. It's like he has something against Hayden.
