When Derek pushed through the doors of the vet clinic, he was met with the Sheriff and a deputy he couldn't be bothered to remember the name of. His hands shook and his jaw was clenched so tight it ached.
"Is he—" Derek's words were cut off by Noah.
"Deaton is treating him now."
"What happened?" Derek growled. Noah's text was vague and nearly sent him into an uncontrollable shift. He'd managed to calm himself enough to keep the shift at bay and speed to Deaton's clinic, breaking almost every traffic law on the way.
Noah's expression grew tense. "He was next. If it weren't for deputy Parker..." he trailed off. His voice wavered with unshed tears.
Derek turned his attention to the deputy. "You found him?"
Kai shifted under Derek's stare. "In the woods. We were doing our nightly search and I found him."
"Was anyone with him?"
Kai shook his head.
"He was just alone?" Derek asked doubtfully. His tone grew more hostile.
Kai nodded.
Derek took a step forward. "Did you look to see if anyone was nearby or—"
"Derek." Noah put a hand on his chest. "If he'd waited even another five minutes, Stiles might be dead. He did the right thing."
Derek's hostility melted into devastation at the thought of losing Stiles. He closed his eyes to calm himself down. "The guy he was with, where is he?" his tone was still tense but calmer.
"What guy?" Noah frowned.
Derek opened his eyes. "He was...he was on a date..." He could feel his anger spiking. He never should have let Stiles go out with Adrian.
"He was on a date with who?" Sheriff asked, new-found anger in his tone. He hadn't known about any date.
"Adrian. He's a friend of Danny's and that Kyle guy. The one with the missing sister."
"This Adrian knew one of the other victims and he was with Stiles tonight?" Noah asked in an accusing tone.
Derek gave a nod.
"That connects him to two attacks. That's enough to bring him in for questioning." Noah's eyes landed on Kai.
"I'll pay him a visit." Kai gave a curt nod.
"I'm coming with you," Derek said, taking a step after Kai.
"I can't let you do that." Noah stepped in, putting a hand back on Derek's chest.
"If Adrian knows something..." Derek cut his eyes to Kai.
"He knows what questions to ask." Noah gave a nod.
Derek looked at Kai again. He sniffed the air. Kai smelled spicy with hints of floral notes. It was a pleasant smell, but nothing that said he was supernatural. Derek did note the nerves he was feeling though.
"You should be here when Stiles wakes up," Noah said, pulling Derek's attention from Kai.
He huffed but didn't argue. He took a seat in one of the chairs, leaning his elbows on his knees with his hands clasped tightly in front of him.
"Be careful, deputy, this guy could be dangerous," Noah said.
"Yes sir." Kai nodded before slipping out the door.
"Where are the others?" Derek asked when Noah sat next to him.
"On their way."
"Was it belladonna?"
