Chapter 10

     being at your first Toman meeting was.. weird. standing in front of all the gang members with Mikey at your side, they looked at the both of you with confused expressions.

it looked like you were the only girl there; and that made the slight nervousness you were feeling worsen.

nothing really made you anxious, but having to win over a group of delinquents was definitely something you could add to that list.

so, there you stood, shifting uncomfortably under their gazes as you waited for Mikey to speak.

"everyone listen up," he called out, "we have a new member joining Toman today." with you already being up there, it was obvious who the knew member was.

soft murmurs of disagreement ran through the crowd, but Mikey continued despite them.

"this is Vera Tadashi; she's proved she can fight, and with the division captains support i've decided she'll be apart of Toman from now on."

"but she's a girl!"

"i bet she can't even fight!"

"why is a girl joining Toman?!"

an uproar of people voiced their concerns, and you stood still, looking down and studying the ground.

"shut up," you heard an uninterested voice yell out, and looked up to see it was Baji who said that.

he caught your eye, grinning softly as you smiled back at him gratefully.

a small rush of confidence rushed in you, allowing you to speak up, trying to put out a loud enough voice for everyone to hear.

"i know i'm not the typical person to join a gang, but i promise i'll work hard and i'll have your backs," after that you went quiet, bracing yourself for more ridiculing.

but, it never came. instead, a chorus of cheers sounded through the grassy area after a few moments.

looking around at the people slightly below you, all of the members were finally on board with accepting you into Toman, with your friends cheering the loudest.

it brought a warm feeling into your chest, and a grin broke onto your face, spreading from ear to ear.

Mikey then told you to join the crowd, and you complied, hopping down the stairs and standing beside Baji, who's division you would be in.

he nudged your arm, grabbing your attention.

"welcome to Toman," he mused, smiling as you beamed up at him.

mouthing a 'thanks', the two of you turned back to hear what Mikey was talking about.

"-the last thing i wanted to talk about, was someone else joining us. he's already in the gang, but has been in prison for three years, so most of you don't know him." at his words, your breathing hitched in your chest.

"Itsuki will be getting out of prison in a week; so when he comes back i'll formally introduce everyone to him."

a mixture of excitement and dread ran through you, unable to feel at peace when you knew Itsuki was soon to be released.

of course it was a happy thing, but you were still nervous. you hadn't seen him other than behind a glass wall for no more than an hour for the past few years, and you didn't know how much things could have changed.

but you pushed that thought away, focusing on how good it'll be to see him again.

soon the meeting came to an end, and the members of Toman slowly began to empty from the area, leaving only a few people.
