When Hyunjae clears his throat, your eyes flicker back to him and you try to keep the guilty expression off of your face. The look on his face is clear. He's been trying to get your attention for a while and you haven't even noticed.
He turns his head to look in the direction your eyes have been glued, and you quickly sit up. He can't. He can't see what it is that's got you so distracted.
"I'm sorry," you immediately say, pulling his attention back to you. "I'm just kind of tired and staring off into space."
His answering hum is quiet, noncommittal. Your heart drops into your stomach in response. The relationship the two of you have is good. Almost too good. If you mess this up, you'll regret it forever, so you need to get it together and focus on your boyfriend.
Still, your eyes flicker back across the restaurant. Back to him.
Sangyeon must feel your stare burning a hole into the side of his face because he glances in your direction. When your eyes meet, it's like all the breath is gone from your lungs. His gaze is like a gentle caress along your skin, and you want nothing more than to sink into his embrace.
You knew if he just said the words, you'd run right back to him. Fall right back into that on-and-off trap the two of you always seem to fall into. He's like a drug that you don't want to get clean from. He's intoxicating. Exhilarating.
Hyunjae speaks and you give him your full attention. This is the man you should be focusing on. This is the man that all of your friends swear is perfect for you, swear he's the one. He's the serene blue skies compared to Sangyeon's bright flame.
…If only you were a butterfly instead of a moth.
