i'm free, xiao thought bleakly, wending his way through the people of a bustling and noisy liyue. years of torment and now i'm free.
free from what? his thoughts. xiao had a lot of them — his karma fed into those thoughts. heaven forbid he take care of his karma but whenever he had a small opening of relief, he took it to stop himself from suffering. he could never seem to shake away the immense pain from his soul, and the black chains clawed and dug into his skin — not enough to puncture any holes — but deep enough to leave scars.
it was all metaphorical of course. he wasnt physically chained from all sides, but it always felt so mentality. he was trapped inside his own head ; his own thoughts. he allowed all the negativity to consume him, like a dark sea that swallowed him deep into the depths of the abyss.
liyue wasnt making him any better. he took a stroll to clear his head, but the noise of human beings took him right back to his demise. he hated hearing clatter and chatter ; it almost sounded as if the chatter was laughing at him, tormenting him.
xiao decided to perch himself behind a hut, staying hidden in the shadows while people made their way past him, not even taking notice to the young man. he crossed his arms to watch the crowd, wondering when she would come around.
y/n was someone xiao tended to watch over more often than he would like to admit. the first time you both met, it was when he saved you from drowning. you didn't even have time to thank him because you passed out just as he brought you to shore, and you couldnt thank him for taking you all the way to baizhu's clinic.
