Kabanata 3

Tears

A postulant informed me that the grand priest had an important visitor tonight. I ate my dinner with everyone in the dining hall. It was a quiet supper. I haven't spoken a word until Lyra approaches me cheerfully as I head back to my chamber.

She clings into my arms and smiles, "Sinabihan ako ng grand priest na maaari akong sumama sa paglabas ng cathedral bukas! I'll be going with you to observe how he used his holy powers to heal. I am thrilled to learn something!"

Lyra is one of the most important people here in the temple. She doesn't have an angelic blood on her. She can't read the runes and translate the sacred book, but she can use the light ability to heal certain diseases. It isn't much, but she might find a way to cultivate it. That's what Lucas said to Lyra.

He said his friend's son is sick. Maybe Lyra can help and learn a thing or two about her abilities.

"Siguro ka na ang goal mo ay matuto? Hindi maghanap ng gwapo at mayaman na asawa kaya ka excited lumabas bukas?" Tukso ko sakanya habang nakangisi.

Lyra isn't a postulant. She isn't a saintess or apprentice like me, when in fact, I think she deserves the title because she can actually heal unlike me. She was a commoner residing on the outskirts on the southern part of our kingdom. She went to the temple to confirm that she has healing abilities. That's why the temple let her in. They're training her to be a healer who can help the cathedral to aid some people seeking help.

"Okay, Renee. Alam na alam mo talaga ang takbo ng isip ko. But yes, I am going there to learn. Hindi pa rin nawawala fatigue ko tuwing nanggagamot. I think it's time to actually learn about my skills." Nakanguso niyang tugon.

"You'll be able to control it soon, Lyra. Don't worry."

We talked a bit more before concluding the night and gone to our separate chambers. In here, I can see a bit of my reflection in the mirror.

And you look so similar to her... really.

The emperor's words still linger on my mind. Who is he talking about? I feel like these particular words caught my attention. Walang balak kumawala sa isipan ko. But sadly, I have no way of knowing what that actually meant.

I opened the door for him. He gave me a gentle smile and walked inside my room.

"Kumusta ang gabi mo, Renee?"

I studied his face a little. He looks dreadful. He looks tired.

"It was fine... but are you okay, Lucas?" Agad kong tanong sakanya.

"Physically? Yes." He answered then gave a heavy sigh after, "Mentally? I am extremely exhausted."

He tilted his head towards my direction and handed out a white glowing potion again. The potion I have been drinking for a while now.

"It's a bit unsightly for you to see me struggling to contain my mental stress when I am supposed to be flawless. I am supposed to be holy as I am the grand priest, but here I am ranting."

He took it and put it inside his robe. I didn't know what's inside that potion. But I didn't question him either. I just know I need to drink it because I have to.
