Kabanata 9

Progress

I can feel three sets of eyes burning my back as I write a letter for Lucas. It's only been a day, but I made a tremendous improvement.

Gabriel immediately went to my room after hearing that I remembered Adam. He was glad that I'm making progress. He was silently waiting... waiting for me to say that I remembered him too, but unfortunately, the only one whom I can clearly remember as of now is Adam. I knew Gabriel was special to me because there's a certain bond that made me inclined to him. Like a siblings bond kind of thing... And of course, Dale Crescendo.

I haven't talked to him yet. I haven't had a moment with him, but I knew that he owned a big puzzle piece on my memories.

The grand priest told me that I would recover everything soon. The time when Lyra erased the remaining miasma on my body, my memories would come rushing to me.

I've remembered Adam, who was part of my memories... this is all thanks to Lucas and Lyra. Without them, I would probably be clueless about who I am. Lucas said I can ask people about myself... stories na alam nila na may kinalaman sakin. That's what I am gonna do. I will interview everyone who knows me... this Amaury that I was before I died... before I lost my memories four years ago.

I signed the paper after checking my letter for Lucas. Then I sealed them and ready to send out.

Portia, the woman who was holding Abel before, steps up.

"I shall post it, Lady Amaury... if you allow me." She hesitated. I can feel nervousness in her voice, but her face remains calm.

"Thank you... Portia, isn't it?"

"Yes, milady." She whispered and softly nodded, "Just like Adam, I served you too. I do hope that you will allow me once more to be of use to you, Your Excellency."

Portia... so as Adam... they serve me. They serve the Clerebold house? Is that it? I look at Gabriel, who was leaning comfortably on the couch, gazing softly at Portia.

Pasimpleng palipat lipat ang masid ko sa dalawa. And when Gabriel and I locked eyes, he cleared his throat and sips on his tea.

Oh?

What kind of reaction is that, brother? Don't tell me...

I took Portia's hand, which is holding my letter.

"Portia, are you Abel's mother? Are you and Gabriel in a relationship?"

Narinig ko ang padabog na buga ni Gabriel ng tsaa na iniinom. His cheeks were flush. His eyes widened as he looked at me. Portia didn't react. Her lips were on one thin line before speaking.

"I am not, Lady Amaury. Though, Sir Abel is a precious child, but I am not his mother. The Countess, unfortunately, passed away during childbirth."

"Oh... oh." I softly gasped and let her hand go.

I thought there's something going on with them. It's the way my brother looks at her that made me doubt. His eyes always follow her. How can I not be mistaken if he looks like a lovestruck gentleman? I wanted to ask what their relationship is, but... I bit my lip and urged her to deliver the letter. I feel like it will be rude of me if I asked her more personal questions. So I immediately changed the subject.

"Thank you for delivering the letter, Portia... and I'm sorry."

"Sorry, Lady Amaury? Whatever for?" She smiled sadly.

"For not remembering you. I knew within me that Gabriel was my sibling. I remembered Adam as soon as we converse... but I can't seem to remember you, Portia. Forgive me."
