Chapter 3

Ty opened his eyes and looked around the room;  his heart sank.  He reached for the call button and pressed hard.

In a moment, his evening nurse appeared, her name tag said; 'Martha'.  But everyone called her Marty.

What are you doing awake Ty!!  You're supposed to be resting.

Amy's not here; where.......where did she go??
He asked in a frantic voice.

Relax cowboy, she's down in the lounge working on her homework.  Looks like geometry; I hated geometry in school.  But to get my nursing degree, I had to pass 2 geometry classes.
And I aced them!!
Are you hungry??

I miss her.  And I hate these painkillers the doctor has me on.  They make me sleepy and I need to apologize to Amy & try to explain why I left......

Mr. Borden, you need to relax, you're getting upset & you're heart rate & blood pressure are up.  I'll bring you some jello.  And give Amy a little space, she's been here in your room day and night for like 3 days now.
She's a pretty girl Ty, and a sweetheart!!
You need to rest, heal up and take Amy dancing.

Does she like to dance??

Woah cowboy......you need to ask Amy, not me!!

She's spending the night here??

Yup, we make her a bed right there by the window.  You must be a pretty special guy for Amy to stay by your side!!  I'll be right back with your jello, and  Dr. Lamanski will be by in the morning.  His orders for tomorrow are to get you up and walking.  And you're going to hurt when you walk........but ask him about your pain meds, ok??

And remember Ty, every girl wants to hear her man say........I love you.

Going on??  You tell me, Amy!!
My mom talked to your grandpa today about hay or something.  Then she figures out he's upset about something, and asks him.
Next thing I know she called me at school asking if you were living at the hospital with Ty.
So there you have it!!  I'm one of your 3 best friends & we're all in the dark.......
Your grandpa is upset about Ty being in the hospital, my moms a nervous wreck like she always is.  You're sleeping with Ty, and I'm
sitting here painting my toenails.  So unfair!!
So spill the details!!

Yes, I'm staying at the hospital in Ty's room.
The nurses brought a cushion, blankets, a pillow, and made me a bed on the window ledge in his room.  It's a wide ledge designed for a bed to be made up for family to spend the night.
And I'm not sleeping with Ty........geez Ashley!!

So you're Ty's family now; did the hospital chaplain have a wedding ceremony??
Are you pregnant???

Would you stop Ashley!!  You're like a rabid wolverine!!  My grandpa was all upset with Ty being here by himself so I volunteered to stay a few days to look after him.  You know be a patient advocate; that's what they say I am here.

No, you're 'Mother Theresa'.
Ty up and ran off on you and wrote that stupid letter that made no sense.  He never contacted you, broke your heart and now you're giving him a kidney.
Why do you care, Amy??
He's a loser extraordinaire!!
Are you in his room right now??

No, I'm down in the visitor's lounge working on my homework.  They've got Ty all drugged up on painkillers.  He's been asleep, like an hour after I got here.  They get him up to eat & stuff but he's like a zombie.
And I don't know why he left Ashley, and right now I don't care.  He needs me, and I'm here.
Once he's better I'm sure Ty will tell me why he left........so abruptly.

But what's going to stop Ty from leaving again??

I told you Ash; I'll find out why he left the first time, then I'll decide.  But when I got here, he apologized.  He looked really upset & remorseful!!

I bet he did!!  You know Amy, I'd ask the nurse's aide for a big glass of ice water. 
Then, I'd tell Ty to go to hell and dump the ice water on his head & walk out of there.
Anger gets a man's attention!!
Wait..........are you crying??
Oh, Amy........I didn't mean to make you cry.
I'm sorry.  My mouth runs without checking with my brain!!

I need to get back to Ty's room and check on him......

I don't mean to keep bringing this up Amy, but I care about you, and I don't want to see you get hurt again.
.......Amy, just tell me the real reason why you're there with Ty.

........I love him.
