I made him a promise.
Chapter 4

'List the 4 transformations of geometry, in alphabetical order'.

Amy groaned, then closed her eyes and slowly arranged them in her mind, then typed them into her geometry class quiz. Just as she typed
'dilation' Amy heard footsteps and looked up.

She tossed her laptop onto the next chair, leapt up, in the hospital 5th-floor lounge, and almost screamed at him.....

Ty!!! What are you doing out of bed??

Amy!! I woke up and you were gone!!

She had never seen him sooo upset.

I'm right here Ty!!!
I was just doing my homework. You can't be roaming the halls, Ty!! You can't!!
Come on, let's get you back to your room.
You could have passed out in the hall!!
What were you thinking Ty!!

I was thinking about you!!
And missing you. Marty said you've been here 3 days and sleeping on the window ledge. Is that true??

Yes, guilty as charged. Amy softly said as she wrapped her arm around Ty.....and stared at his bare feet.

But why?? Aren't you angry I left after our first kiss!!
Ty stopped and looked at Amy. She took both his hands and looked up into his eyes, then said......

Ty, yes I'm angry, I am. Do you have any idea how you hurt me?? I cried for weeks!! I yelled at Grandpa over the stupidest things. I cried the same tears as when my mom died......
One minute you were kissing me, and the next.......
Amy's tears fell from her eyes and shot Ty out of the sky.

Ty stared at the floor and fought back tears.
They were dinosaur-sized tears and they rumbled down the hallways of Ty's heart like boulders. He faced them like a man.
He fought them like the small-sized wolverine fights a grizzly bear. He closed his eyes and grimaced;
Ty refused to cry and appear less than a man.
But in Ty's heart......Amy was his only family.
Officially they were friends. Unofficially maybe more. But to Ty.......Amy was the moon and the stars......his absolute everything.

Amy's emotional voice punched him.....
Do you Ty?? Do you understand how I missed you so bad I wanted to die!! Ty look at me!!
Amy pleaded!!

Amy......I wanted to tell you, but I didn't know how!!

That is soooo lame Ty!! You found the courage to kiss me!! But you couldn't tell me how you felt inside?? Didn't you feel me kiss you back Ty!!
Didn't my kiss tell you I loved you!! Huh??
Don't you know I love you!!
I care about you!! All of you!! Even your heart.
Do you understand Ty??

Amy reminded herself to be careful; she knew this mountain of a man had a shy and tender heart........just like her grandfather.

Why are you even here Amy?? I don't deserve a girl like you. I'm just a guy Amy. I'm nothing special.

You're wrong Ty!! You're very special to me!!
And here's the thing Ty,....... I've missed you more than my anger. Does that make any sense??

I'm not worth you being here 3 days Amy.
I'm not. I don't have anything to offer you; I drive an old truck, all I have $12.17 cents in my pants pocket.... I can't even buy you dinner.
And........I don't even have a high school degree.

Maybe not Ty. But you used geometry to help me win the Fall Finale. No other competitor used geometry to win.
You were incredible.
Ty.....you can get a high school degree.
You can get a job, you can save money & ask me out.
But I can't find another you!!
There's only one of you and I'm over the moon you came back!!
Come on!! I need to get you back to your room.

Amy......I went to see my......

Amy set her finger on Ty's lips and whispered....
Don't tell me now. I don't want to know right now why you left. I hate change & I'm scared you're leaving means change for us Ty.
Please don't tell me......not now anyways.
Come on.... Back to your room.

No, I want to sit in a chair with you and look at the city lights together. I need to be with you, Amy.

We both can't fit in a chair Ty.

We can if you sit on my lap.

That sounds nice. Amy reached up and touched Ty's cheek. She loved the roughness of his unshaven face.

Ty sat in a soft chair and moaned silently as Amy crawled into his lap. She curled up into Ty's chest and purred. Her weight pressed on his broken ribs and brought him intense pain.
But feeling Amy's warm and soft body was sheer heaven for Ty. He wrapped his arms around Amy and thought of what Marty had told him.....

'You need to tell Amy you love her'.

They had never snuggled before. There was nothing special about a hospital lounge on a patient floor. But Amy & Ty had all the specialness they needed......each other.
Holding each other felt off the charts wonderful to them both. Soon, their pheromones brought them to sleep. Amy's head lay against Ty's heart. Her hips pressed into his, she was sound asleep in the safety of Ty's arms.

Ty fell asleep for a couple of minutes, his nose nestled into Amy's sweet-smelling ponytail.
He loved how soft she felt, and the warmth of her body. He stared out the window and wondered about his future. Would he be able to get his GED and a college degree?? Ty knew he needed to have an education and skills to take care of a girl. And someday maybe a family.
He needed Jack to be proud of him, and Ty knew he would need Jack's permission......
They were too young to consider marriage, but tonight, both thought about it.

Ty tried to close his eyes and fall asleep again, but he was a man.....
His thoughts wandered like the north wind on a warm summer's evening.

Ty wondered how it was, a beautiful young woman like Amy would love him so deeply. His thoughts returned to a favorite imaginary place of his....
He and Amy stood beside a roaring river, under a magnificent magnolia tree. Amy wore a dress of white, adorned with a soft pattern of yellow and blue flowers. Her mother's favourite colours.

Amy was more beautiful than a field of wildflowers, on a mountainside in heaven.

He knelt down on one knee and asked her......

Amy smiled and said yes!!!! Her joy leapt into the Milky Way.

Ty kissed her, closed his eyes, and fell sound asleep. A beautiful young woman lay asleep in his lap. On the fifth floor of Calgary General Hospital.
