Simamkele's pov:
"Take it Mila, you need it to protect your soulmate" she says. The old woman who I cannot recognize speaks. She is wearing all white with a doek around her dreadlocks.
"How will I find him?" I ask her as I hesitate to give her my hand
"All in due time my girl. His mother has chosen you. Take it now, your life will be in great danger if you don't" she says stretching out her hand,I do the same. She gives me a bracelet made of white beads
"Why did she choose me?" I ask and the old woman smiles.
"I'll see you later" she waves at me
I look around the room I'm in. The dream I had makes itself a victim of my thoughts. What could it post mean? I really don't believe in God or ancestors but I believe in guardian angels, and I think that was mine, visiting me. I check the time and it's a little past 6am. I decide to wake up and freshen up before those old ladies come in here and tell me how I should be a 'wife'. I call Sindi and she picks up on the second ring
"You're up early today" she responds
"And I thought I'd wake up next to you" she laughs a little. We slept together and she had a breakdown so I think that's why she isn't in high spirits today
"I was fetching water for you to bath before the old women wake you up with cold water" I chuckle. She knows my problem
"Thank you. Don't take long" I hang up after that and decide to make the bed immediately after the call because if I don't,I never will. Today is the reading of the will. I'm not nervous,I'm just curious. I'm not expecting anything but it would be nice to know he thought of me. Mrs Mthembu walks in a few minutes after I'm done with cleaning up
"Good morning" she says gesturing for a hug. I hug her back, she's such a sweet lady, doesn't deserve any of this
"Morning"
"How did you sleep?" she asks "No nightmares?" I shake my head
"No,I slept very well. How did you sleep?"
"Girl, did I even sleep?" and I could tell from those sacks of potatoes under her eyebags that she hadn't slept that much
"Why didn't you sleep?it was a long day yesterday"
"Yes it was but,I'm also the owner of this house and I had to make sure everyone sleeping over was alright and that people were accompanied out. My husband's business associates talk a lot too so I had to entertain them, I think they even forgot the reason they were here" she blabs on about her life.
"I'm sorry ma,you should've gotten much rest. It was surely needed"
"Nonsense. I'm a woman and without me,everything in this household would fall apart" she waves me off
"Thank you for everything you've done for me. Loving me as I am and not trying to change me but guide me into the right way" the door opens and Sindi walks in with the basin.
"It's really nothing. You're my daughter and besides, you haven't seen nothing yet,I'm about to spoil you and my grand baby rotten" I giggle getting excited
"Hey!what about me?" Sindi gasps. Her mother rolls her eyes at her
"We'll see what we'll do with you" she says and laughs. I smile realizing that not all is lost in this battle. I still have them. Even though all I want is Lukhanyo to hold me and kiss me on the nose. I can't get over seeing him hold her everyday and it feels as if she knows what we were up to,like she's trying to rub it into my face but I know my mind is playing tricks on me.
