CHAPTER FOURTEEN

"A MEETING HAS been set." Ricco announced as he stepped foot inside my office. I had a small office in my penthouse for whenever I needed to work, legal or not legal, but I preferred not to hold any meetings at my home but sometimes it couldn't be helped in cases like this. The modern interior brought a sleekness and coolness in the office.

Meeting with Incognito is urgent, if he knows something he needs to tell us so that we can prepare ourselves for whatever onslaughts that'll happen. After I have enough information I'll let my father be in the know of all that has happened. He'll be angry but if I have enough information that'll lessen his anger.

I shouldn't even try to approach him if I'm empty handed alas I still wouldn't be able to hide away. Sooner or later I'd have to face my reality.

"When?" I ask Ricco, setting up a meeting with Incognito is already hard so I left it up to him to choose a date but for the sake of my sanity I want the date to be as early as possible. "This Saturday in the afternoon." A feeling of satisfaction flowed through me and I was pleased that it was quick, getting the answers to the burning questions is a relief–if he has the answers.

I might not be able to meet up with Ophelia but I'll make it up for her. Usually I'd still pass by if there was still some time left but I'd be busy the whole day and the meeting will be held in another state so I won't be able to be on time at the bakery.

I'll ache to see her and be in her presence. It already gets bigger when I see her but when I don't see her a sense of desperation comes into the mix and when it does it gets worse but I don't want to overwhelm Ophelia.

Alessio grunts out a noise, "talking with the Don is a smarter choice, Dario. Everything can go wrong, papà will be able to handle everything if you tell him right now." I turn to look at my younger brother. From the moment I announced to my siblings that I'd meet up with Incognito, Alessio has been against it. He's a stickler for rules and expects everything to go in order, me not telling the Don is going against the order that has been set.

At the same time I understood his worries but I'm the future Don, I should solve the issues on my own and cut it before it grows into a bigger issue.

He's also against the meeting due to Incognito being a snake, the information you ask has a price attached to it and Incognito needs to be in the mood to spill information otherwise he'll misuse the time that you have. At the same time you won't know if he's really telling the truth, everyone in the underworld knows that he has a lot of information but some of it can be a mix of lies and truths.

"I have made up my mind, Alessio." My voice hardened as the words tumbled out. "I need you behind me, fratello." His earring dangles as he steps away from the liquor cabinet, and stands behind me, "you know that I'm always behind whatever it is that you do but I have an inkling that this will blow up in your face."
