Chapter Eleven: Skye's Decision

At the lookout, six cute pups and two young ones were sleeping peacefully until a phone rang, waking Ryder, who was sleeping with Chase in his bed.
The boy, still half asleep, picked up the phone and checked who was calling him, but the number did not appear in his address book, so believing it to be a citizen in distress, he answered it.

"Hello, here the PAW Patrol, what is your emergency?"

"Hello, sorry for disturbing you, you're Ryder, right? The leader of the PAW Patrol?" A woman's voice said.

"Yes I'm Ryder, can I help you in any way?" 

"I'm Hester, the leader of the California team. We've met at Sacramento."

"Hi Hester, yes this is Ryder, how can I help you?"

"I need to tell a very important thing to Skye." 

"Oh, but she is sleeping, can I call you back in an hour?"

"OK, tell Skye to call me as soon as she can."

"It will be done."

After the call with Hester, Ryder got up and went to prepare breakfast for himself and his pups, and also for Katie.

When Ryder got up, disturbed by the noise the boy was making, Chase woke up and the first thing he did was to stretch. While his owner dressed Chase was asked to go and wake the rest of the pups and Katie and come and have breakfast when they were ready.

After receiving some cuddles from Ryder, Chase went to the room where Katie and the rest of the puppies were sleeping. The German Shepherd woke Katie and told them to go to breakfast not before waking the rest of the puppies, then Chase went to the kitchen to see if his breakfast had already been prepared.

Katie, who was happy to be woken by Chase, got up and dressed, then gently woke the pups and told them to go to the kitchen for breakfast as she thought they must be very hungry.
Before long all the pups were on their feet and headed with Katie towards the kitchen, hungry.

"Good morning Ryder." Everyone except Chase said.

"Good morning Katie, good morning pups. Have breakfast and go to the living room because someone has something important to tell you." The pups and Katie were intrigued by the boy's statement, so they ate breakfast as fast as they could to find out what he meant.

The pups ate calmly as they were still asleep. Once they had finished their breakfast, they helped put their bowls in the wash and went into the living room as they had been asked.

Shortly afterward, the pups, who had been sitting in front of the television in the meantime, were joined by the boys. Katie sat down on the sofa, while Ryder projected the image of his phone onto the television so that everyone could see and hear what Hester had to say.

The television turned on and showed the face of a woman in her forties who had a smile on her face and seemed eager to say a few words.

"Hello PAW Patrol!"

"Hello Hester." Everyone said. Skye and Zuma were happy to see Hester but did not understand the reason for her call.

"I have fantastic news for Skye. Skye, I am sorry again for your accident and I hope you have recovered, but I have found a way to solve our problem." Hester said.

"Thank you, I appreciate it."

"Yesterday Claire called me and told me that she had read the rules of the game thoroughly and found something that could be used to our advantage."

"What do you mean?" Katie asked.

"According to the NPL rules, if a player is disqualified due to medical problems and all the other players in the team have been eliminated, well, another player can replace him but only if the disqualified player chooses to do so," Hester explained.
