Chapter Twenty: The Rise of the Rookie

It's been four days since the PAW Patrol left Chicago for New Orleans, the journey was long but at least they arrived before it got dark. 
When the PAW Patrol arrived in New Orleans, Claire and Polly met with Hester and Byron. Everyone was amazed when security chief Jack Peterson told them they were the first team to arrive in Louisiana. 

Hester and Claire decided not to waste a minute and had Chase train day and night along with the rest of the puppies who proved to have good skills and to be valid opponents for the German Shepherd. 

But then the day of the knockout round came, the first elimination game was just around the corner and Chase still had to train to hope he could beat his first opponent.

"Good morning everybody," Ryder said yawning.

"I see you got up early, do you want a cup of coffee?" Hester said drinking a cup of warm milk.

"Yes, but add milk, I can't drink it without it because it's too strong for me."

"Okay, I'll be right back."

As Ryder waited for his cup of milk and coffee, he sat down and watched Chase dance on the platform. He had trained so much since he agreed to dance instead of Skye.  

In recent days he had trained with the rest of the puppies giving him a moment of breath, making him appreciate that game and all the friends around him.

Five minutes later Hester returns with Ryder's latte, and they both had breakfast. 

"Ryder, thank you for accompanying Claire and Polly here, and also for allowing Chase, Skye, and Zuma to participate in this competition, the whole team will be forever grateful."

"Of nothing, it was my duty. I know puppies really like this game and seeing them participate in a national competition is something I never imagined."

"Well now one of them is here and we have to give him all the help we can because today is the big day, Chase will face his first player, and tomorrow the second," Hester said.

"Are you so sure he can win? In short, I don't think Chase can compete at such a high level, he barely managed to win in the group stage." Ryder said in a low voice to avoid being heard.

"Ryder, I know you're worried but you have to trust Chase, after all, he was your first puppy and you've known each other for a long time, give him at least a chance." 

"I will, but I'm worried about him because I don't know how he will react if he loses. Seeing the reaction of others made me think a lot."

"Chase is not like the others, you told me that together with Skye he is one of the oldest members of the entire team, so he will be able to manage the inner emotions, and also he will have all of us by his side. And also the person he loves." 

"You mean Skye? Well, he's always felt something for her since she joined the team. I always hoped they could be put together but it hasn't happened yet." Ryder said playing with the cup.

"Remember Ryder, love is like water, it stops at nothing and will always find a way around the obstacle, just give Chase and Skye time to assimilate their feelings and I promise you will see them together."

"Okay, thanks for the chat, Hester."

Soon Claire arrived, as usual late. Ryder asked where the other puppies were and told them that they had gone to visit New Orleans, after all, they had been training with Chase for four days and needed a break.

"Good morning Chase, how is going the training session?" Claire asked.

"It's going well, maybe too well, I've not made mistakes for too long and it seems very strange to me."
