[Dream]

Seven.

Why seven?

Violet's body was locked in place in the abyss. It was dark and yet it was so light. So cold. Her body felt so light and yet so heavy.

She could hear a sound. The sound of something dropping to the ground.

Violet looked down to see bones beneath her feet. Bones of seven.

Whispers invaded her ears, surrounding her. They were horrified.

Violet looked up to see seven figures. Seven figures surrounding her. Surrounding her in a circle. Walking and walking in a circle. Their bones dropping to the ground.

She could hear the flies buzzing in her ears. It was so loud. It was driving her crazy.

Violet began to hyperventilate, "What do you want from me?!"

The figures came in closer and closer as their whispers turned into screams. They screamed in pain and asked for help.

Violet's head snapped up as if someone had pulled her hair back and she found herself looking into a mirror above her. Her reflection stared back at her, but her eyes were wide and she was covered in blood.

Hands latched onto her, scrambling to take hold and pull her down. Violet's body was covered in blood now as she was pulled into the depths of the bones, unable to escape.

"Set us free!"

~

Violet shot up with a gasp, her body jolting awake. She could feel herself trembling as she took deep breaths and dropped her head into her hands.

What the hell was that?

Violet looked to the side to see Lucy was still sound asleep just as she should've been. She slowly got up and peeked out the curtains to see the sun was just rising.

Violet sighed and raked her fingers through her hair. They weren't even supposed to start until later. It was way too early. And Violet had only gotten about 2 hours of sleep, assuming it was about 6 am now. She should be asleep for at least 2 more.

But that dream. God, it had unsettled her.

Her first thought was to go to Lockwood's room and stay with him. He was the first person she always thought of when she was troubled. But he was still sleeping. She shouldn't bother him.

Violet chewed on the inside of her cheek as she debated her options before finally just walking down the stairs and stopping in front of Lockwood's closed door.

He had always been the one to say that if she needed anything, she could come to him. Even when she first joined the agency. When she had nightmares, he was the one to say she could come to him.

Violet found herself pacing back and forth as she tried to think of what to do. And, after a few minutes, Violet held her breath and opened the door. She slipped inside and closed it behind her before letting a quiet breath out.

The room was dark besides a small glimmer of light through the curtains from the sunrise. Lockwood was sleeping soundly in his bed and Violet crept forward and sat down on the floor by the bed, her back leaning against it. She felt safer in here. Safer with him.

It wasn't that Lucy made her feel unsafe or anything of the sort. No, Violet adored her friend. They shared a connection like no one else. No pun intended. But Lockwood was Violet's true home. Her safe space. Someone she loved more than she had loved anyone before. Not that she had ever loved anyone in a romantic sense before.
