Jim follows Dwight up the winding trail, panting heavily as he struggles to keep up. It's been a while since he's done any sort of physical activity, and it shows. He can feel the burn in his legs and the sweat on his forehead as he trudges up the steep incline.

"Remind me again why we thought it was a good idea to hike up a mountain for a picnic?" Jim says, wheezing slightly.

Dwight turns back to look at him, a hint of a smirk on his lips. "Because the view from the top is worth it. Plus, you need to get out of the office and enjoy some fresh air."

Jim nods, taking in the scenery around him. The trail winds through a dense forest, the trees towering high above them. Rays of sunlight filter through the branches, casting dappled shadows on the ground. Birds chirp in the distance, and Jim can hear the sound of a nearby stream.

As they continue up the trail, Dwight leads the way, carrying a bag filled with sandwiches, fruit, and drinks. Jim follows close behind, carrying a blanket and a bottle of wine.

Despite his exhaustion, Jim can't help but feel a sense of excitement as they climb higher and higher. He's always loved the outdoors, and being able to spend a day with Dwight in nature is a welcome change from their usual routine.

"So, where exactly are we going?" Jim asks, trying to distract himself from his labored breathing.

Dwight grins, looking back at Jim. "Just up ahead, there's a clearing on the cliffside. You can see all the houses and buildings below. It's a great spot for a picnic."

Jim nods, still struggling to keep up with Dwight's pace. He's grateful for the distraction, though. The scenery around them is beautiful, with tall trees surrounding the trail, and birds chirping in the branches.

As they near the top, the trail becomes steeper, and Jim's breathing becomes more labored. He stops for a moment to catch his breath, leaning against a nearby tree. Dwight turns back to check on him, a concerned expression on his face.

"You doing okay there, Jim?" Dwight asks, his voice laced with worry.

Jim nods, taking a deep breath. "Yeah, I'm good. Just need a minute to catch my breath."

Dwight nods, waiting patiently as Jim takes a few deep breaths. Once he's ready, they continue up the trail, the clearing coming into view in the distance.

As they reach the clearing, Jim and Dwight are both taken aback by the stunning view. The expanse of grass beneath their feet stretches out towards the cliff's edge, where a small chain link fence separates them from a steep drop that leads to the town below. The river running through the middle of the town is visible from here, snaking its way through the buildings and streets. In the distance, a large lumber factory with a billow of steam rising from its stack can be seen.

(I took this picture offhandedly on a cloudy day btw. I was born in Washington, subtle flex)

"Wow," Jim breathes, taking in the view. "I can't believe we've never come up here before."

Dwight grins proudly. "I knew you'd love it. It's the perfect spot for a picnic."

They make their way to a flat patch of grass near the edge of the cliff, Jim laying out the blanket while Dwight sets down the lunch bag. They sit down on the blanket, both still taking in the breathtaking view.

"It's hard to believe that all of this is just down there," Jim says, gesturing towards the town below.

Dwight nods, his eyes scanning the area. "I know, it's crazy. But it's also beautiful."

They sit in silence for a moment, just admiring the view before Jim reaches for the bottle of wine. "Want a glass?" he asks, holding it out to Dwight.

Dwight nods, taking the glass and pouring himself a small amount. "Thanks, Jim." They both take a sip and then set their glasses down, reaching for their lunch. Dwight pulls out two sandwiches, handing one to Jim, along with a bag of chips and an apple.

"No problem," Jim says with a smile. "I brought this just in case we wanted to celebrate something. You know, like the fact that we made it up here without passing out."

Dwight chuckles, taking a bite of his sandwich. "I could've kept going for another hour or two. But I guess I can't expect the same from a desk jockey like you."

Jim rolls his eyes but laughs. "Hey, I may not have the physical stamina of a farmer, but I have other talents."

Dwight raises an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Oh really? Like what?"

Jim grins. "Like my amazing ability to annoy Dwight Schrute."

Dwight chuckles again. "Fair enough, Jim. You do have a talent for that."

They continue to eat and chat, discussing their plans for the weekend and sharing stories from work. Despite their differences, they're able to enjoy each other's company in the peaceful setting of the cliffside picnic.

As they finish their lunch, Jim lays back on the blanket and stares up at the sky. The clouds are fluffy and white, drifting lazily across the blue expanse. Dwight joins him, lying down next to him and gazing up at the sky as well.

"It's so peaceful up here," Jim says, breaking the silence. "I can't believe I've never been up here before."

Dwight nods in agreement. "I come up here sometimes to think. It's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the office and the farm."

Jim turns his head to look at Dwight, struck once again by how much he loves him. He can't help but think about how much he loves being with Dwight, how he loves the way his eyes light up when he talks about his beet farm, and the way he always makes Jim laugh with his strange facts and offbeat humor. He's only been dating Dwight for a few weeks, but it feels like he's known him for a lifetime.

As they lay there, Jim feels the warmth of the sun on his face and the gentle breeze blowing through his hair. He feels a sense of peace and happiness that he hasn't felt in a long time. He turns his head to look at Dwight, who is still staring up at the sky.

"Dwight," Jim says softly.

Dwight turns his head to look at Jim, his eyes meeting Jim's with a warm smile.

"I just wanted to say how much I love being here with you. It's like the rest of the world just fades away and it's just you and me," Jim says, feeling a bit vulnerable.

Dwight's smile grows wider, and he reaches over to take Jim's hand in his own. "I know what you mean, Jim. Being here with you is amazing. I feel like I can just be myself, and you accept me for who I am," Dwight replies, squeezing Jim's hand gently.

Jim feels his heart swell with love and affection for Dwight, and he leans over to give him a soft kiss on the lips. Dwight responds eagerly, deepening the kiss and pulling Jim closer.

As they break apart, they both smile at each other, feeling happy and content in the moment. They lay back on the blanket, holding hands and watching the clouds, enjoying each other's company in the peaceful setting of the cliffside picnic.

Yay I really only wrote this after I took that picture, I was just inspired to write a story around it for no reason. It's not even that pretty of a view I've been to so many other lookouts before...but IDK. I think it's sweet and warm to imagine their picnic
