So this story was inspired by the really cool art drawn by @hello_oing in their Jim x Dwight art book! They drew Dwight as a rabbit human hybrid and I got the idea for this story, so go check that out! ♡✧( •⌄• )
Jim sits at his desk in the bustling Dunder Mifflin office, his gaze fixed on the computer screen in front of him. He tries to concentrate on his work, the words and numbers blurring together as he grapples with the task at hand. But his efforts are constantly interrupted by Dwight's restless energy.
Dwight, the Harefolk, is a ball of perpetual motion. With his bunny ears perked up and his fluffy tail swaying behind him, he moves about the office with a frantic pace. Every 15 minutes like clockwork, he rises from his seat, a burst of energy propelling him into action. Jim watches as Dwight stands, stretching his legs and taking a few quick hops before starting his ritualistic walk.
Around the office he goes, his steps light and nimble, resembling the bounding of a rabbit. His feet barely touch the ground as he weaves through the cubicles, leaving a trail of annoyed coworkers in his wake. Jim can't help but admire Dwight's boundless energy, even as it becomes a distraction. The other employees have long grown accustomed to Dwight's peculiar routine, barely glancing up from their own work as he zooms past them. Jim's eyes follow Dwight's every step, his mind unable to keep up with the whirlwind that is his boyfriend.
"Hey, Dwight, can you keep it down a bit? Trying to focus here," Jim calls out, frustration lacing his words.
Dwight turns his head, his rabbit-like nose twitching as he scans the room. His gaze lands on Jim, "Oh, sorry, Jim. Just need to work off some of this energy."
Jim sighs, understanding but still annoyed. It's been a few weeks since he and Dwight started dating, and adjusting to the Harefolk's unique habits has been a challenge. Dwight's family, the Schrutes, are the only Harefolk family in Scranton, and the lack of understanding from others has created a sense of isolation. Jim once asked Dwight how many siblings he had, and Dwight's embarrassment was evident as he sheepishly admitted he had lost count.
Jim watches as Dwight continues his energetic walk, darting through the office like a bunny in a hurry. As he moves, Jim notices the amused glances and chuckles from his coworkers. Dwight's attempts at projecting a masculine and manly image often fall flat in the face of his rabbit-like features and behaviors. His nose twitches when he's nervous, his ears perk up when he's excited, and his fluffy tail sways with every step. To everyone else, he's the "cute little rabbit" in the office, an endearing nickname that Dwight despises.
Suddenly, as Dwight rounds a corner with his usual speed, he collides with an unsuspecting coworker carrying a stack of papers. The papers fly into the air, scattering across the floor, and the coworker lets out an exasperated yell.
"Watch where you're going, rabbit boy!" the coworker shouts, frustration dripping from his words. "Can't you control yourself for once?"
Dwight's ears droop, his eyes wide with a mixture of embarrassment and distress. His attempts to project strength and authority crumble in the face of such confrontations. The office falls into an awkward silence as everyone's attention shifts to the collision, waiting to see how Dwight will react.
Dwight straightens his posture, his shoulders squared, and tries to muster a defiant expression. "I'll have you know, I'm not a rabbit. I'm a Harefolk," he retorts, his voice laced with an attempt at authority. "And I have complete control over my movements. It was your carelessness that led to this collision, not my supposed lack of control."
The coworker smirks, clearly unimpressed by Dwight's response. "Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that, bunny boy," he jeers, emphasizing the nickname that Dwight despises.
