(This chapter has a lot of rapid/sudden scene changes later on, but I do my best to make them as clear as possible. And sorry if it's a mess lol)
Ext note. This chapter may be rewritten at another time
It was around five in the morning, the day of Zelda's seventeenth birthday. You were outside with Amirah and Zelda, watching as they continued to work at trying to awaken Zelda's powers. Rhoam, Link and Janelle were with you, all six of you having made yourselves comfortable outside at the Sacred Grounds. You knew you'd be there for the night from the moment you arrived the evening before.
Revali had taken your children to Rito Village to stay with his aunt during the time Ganon would strike, and the Rito were ready to evacuate into the Hebra if necessary. The thought of them needing to leave the village scared you, but Revali tried to assure you that everything would be fine.
"I know you're stressed, Zelda. And it's okay." Amirah tried to reassure her, and Zelda wanted to believe her. But she had been stressed her whole life, and it was never just okay. How could it be okay now? "Remember, my power alone will be enough to keep Ganon weak. So it will be alright, even if you don't awaken your power before he strikes."
"I'm going to do it. I'm going to do this right for once." Zelda huffed, and Amirah gently rubbed up and down the girl's arm to try and comfort her. You leaned back against the pillar behind you as you watched, wishing you could be with your husband. But Amirah told the Champions to be at their Divine Beasts and ready for the moment that Ganon would strike.
Rhoam and Janelle were quietly whispering to each other about something, and Amirah glanced over a few times at them but focused mainly on the princess. You looked out towards the field beyond, and you could see Link swinging the Master Sword around to prepare himself. This was normal for him, but the entire night, you felt as if something was off with him. He seemed much quieter than he usually was.
You figured it could have just been because of the stress from having such a large burden placed on his shoulders.
"We should have gone to the Lanayru Spring. I'd have probably awakened it by now if we went there." Zelda sighed, but Amirah shook her head.
"Ganon could attack at any moment. We wouldn't have had enough time to get there and back."
"But we could have tried!"
"Zelda, your powers aren't going to just suddenly awaken at the Spring of Wisdom. No matter where you are, it's going to take work." Amirah tried to tell her, but Zelda looked over at Link and pointed to him.
"What about Link? All he had to do was pull a sword out of the ground, and he's already got everything he needs to be the hero!" She shouted, and this caused Link to stop what he was doing and look over. "Why was it so easy for him but so hard for me?"
"It wasn't any easier for Link, Zelda." You said, and she shot you a glare. "He spent his whole life training to be the best knight he could be, and he didn't even know he was destined to be the hero. He didn't know that this responsibility was going to be pushed onto him."
"Of course. If Link can do his best without even having to, without knowing he's supposed to save Hyrule... I really am just a failure."
"Zelda." You and Amirah both said, wanting to console her. But you glanced back at Link, and you saw the blade of the Master Sword plunged into the dirt, and Link walking away. "Link? Link, wait!" You ran out to the field, leaving Amirah and the others to comfort the princess, and you caught up with Link.
"What did I do, _____?" He asked, looking back at you, and you didn't see any frustration in his face like you expected after his sudden storm off. He looked more sad than anything. "All week, Zelda's been angry at me, you've been acting like I don't exist, and I'm getting a weird feeling Amirah doesn't like me."
