Chapter 14: Carousel

Getting home I saw no suspicious cars on my block, taking a deep breath I paced outside of the house debating telling my mom about it, or should I just keep it to myself, I know she is excited about going to the school carnival tomorrow, and I don't want this to stop them from going, the kids should go too. Get a taste of how nice the school can be. Taking a deep breath I ran my fingers through my hair making it shoulder length then to my butt so I would have something other than my fingers to play with.

" Nixie!" My mom called, making me snap my head towards the house as she waved me to come to the house. Hesitantly I made my way up towards the house, I saw my mom was beaming with joy and it eased my nerves for a minute. " How is Rue?" She asked me.

" They are doing good. Excited for squishy to come. According to them I'm the baby's favorite person." I said and she chuckled. " How was your day out with the kids?" I asked her and I could see she was practically bouncing with joy.

" I felt like a young hero again! Fresh out of school and just enjoying life." She said, a wide smile on her lips, light crows feet formed by her eyes. " She is a lot like you when you were her age." She commented on and I raised an eyebrow. " Thinking you're all dark and edgy. If your body would allow it I bet you'd be littered with tattoos and piercings." She said and I chuckled.

" Yeah yeah. Is dad cooking tonight?" I asked and she nodded.

" Out back, decided to grill tonight, doing his special ribs, half of them are covered in some sort of hot sauce concoction. Bakugo is in the kitchen making sides and Kaori is somewhere in the house, she said she was tired when we got home." My mom said and I nodded.

" I'm gonna go to my room until dinner is done, okay?" I asked and she nodded then let me into the house, I kicked off my shoes at the door then bolted up the stairs just like I did when I was in high school, panting I slammed the door a little harder than I wanted, running my hands through my hair I started to hyperventilate as I paced my bedroom floor. " He's not that stupid? He wouldn't stoop to my level? Would he? Is he that desperate to get her that he would do that?" I asked aloud as I paced my bedroom floor before I went and sat down in my window sill looking down seeing my dad and Bakugo arguing about something before my dad flicked him on the head adding three drops of his homemade hot sauce that almost killed me and my mom with it's spice level. Closing my eyes I took a slow deep breath bathing in the silence.

" Don't talk to me... It's for the best..." Sol muttered in my ear making me bite down on my lip as I felt tears start to form.

" Stop, stop, stop!" I whispered, fanning my hands as I looked up at the ceiling.

" Why didn't you get rid of it? It would have made this so much easier." He said and I gasped, placing a hand on my heart. " Get over it. It wasn't even alive." Hearing that I let out a broken sob.

" Fuck!" I yelled then punched the window making my dad look up at me, ignoring him I crawled into bed sobbing onto my pillow trying to muffle the sobs that were leaving me, my heart breaking in my chest, shaking as I covered my head, my ears with my hands, then I felt my door open covering my mouth I looked up at the door seeing Kaori rub her eyes like a small child, she dragged her feet before laying down on the bed cuddling close to me, resting her head down onto the bed before sitting up and moving my arm so she could lay on it, then grabbed my other arm and threw it over her waist as she curled herself up into a ball, I felt the air get caught in my chest.

Staring down at her small body, as she closed her eyes nuzzling into my chest I felt my heartbeat pick up in my chest looking down at her I wrapped my arms around her pulling her close as tears rolled down my cheeks, kissing her head I buried my face in her hair as best as I could, my body shook as I cried holding her close. Kissing her head a few more times I adjusted moving her hair out of her face as I blinked my tears away I gave a small sniffle as I began to give a small hum I watched as she gave a small twitchy smile as I did, sighing I closed my eyes then remembered something from my youth, and how my dad would comfort me when I was like this.
