The first month of touring was somehow simultaneously nothing and exactly what Natalie expected.
The days were long, busy, and tiring, but traveling was really beautiful in some ways. She knows she never would have seen so many new places if not for this opportunity so she is dead set on not squandering it.
In this month alone they've been seemingly everywhere in North America, from Mexico City to Kentucky, to New York this coming week. The boys have had 14 shows this month which seems crazy, but flew by quicker than she thought.
The boys are busier than she is, but she's thankful she can still go to some tourist sights since she's kept a low profile so far. Other times she just goes out running errands for the team, but she likes the time by herself. There's not much privacy on a bus. She didn't expect there to be, but it's another thing living it.
It's never quiet. Even when everyone is asleep, there's still the thrum of the bus or the sounds of honking or snoring. They haven't been staying in hotels much since they haven't been in one place for much longer than 2 days.
Louis though has been lovely to her, checking up on her in any way he can. Sending her sweet messages saying he missed though she's only just out to the store. Making her cups of tea or bringing her breakfast in bed, even if it's just a prepackaged muffin.
It's conflicting, the stress and the happiness, but she guesses in some ways it balances itself out.
It's moments like this, at the end of the night, when she and Louis are bone tired, but so happy to be truly near each other again, that helps her get through any of it that's less than perfect.
Sometimes she feels like as long as at the end of the day they wind up next to each other, everything else will fall into place.
Whether that's true or not, she doesn't know, but she likes to think it. Especially when they're in a dreamy daze of tiredness and fluttering eyelids.
"How was your day?" Louis asks, looking up at Natalie blearily from where his head rests on her chest.
He's gotten more used to letting her hold him. Not often and not certainly always, which works out since she likes to be held a good bit, but more than that, she likes to be there for him in whatever way he's comfortable with.
"It was good. Made a few more connections I think will be good for promos and the new posts are doing super well," she smiles at him as she moves her hand through his hair. "How was yours?"
"It was nice, liked seeing you on the side stage," he answers happily through a yawn.
She leans down to kiss him and he smiles into it. "Can't say that every night." She jokes as her cheeks flush.
"I'll keep saying it as long as it makes you kiss me, you do that every night after I say it ya know," he says with a smirk against her lips.
She chuckles and lays her head back down. "Yeah, I guess I do," she shrugs.
Louis made good on his promise and made sure to get them the biggest bunk. It's still small, not quite a full sized bed, but bigger than a twin. She does have her own bunk if she needs it, but right now it's being occupied by a bunch of Louis' things. She tries not to look at how messy it is.
"Did you like the show tonight?" He asks quietly, playing with her fingers.
"Of course baby, you were incredible." She says surely.
"Incredible," he blushes, "Well I don't know about that."
"I do, incredible, fantastic, and wonderful." She reassures him. "Why? Did you think it wasn't good?"
"I dunno," he sighs, hiding his face from her. "Just, it might sound weird, but like after so many times hearing yourself, it almost like starts to sound not right anymore."
"Hm," she hums, trying to understand. "Like when you say the same word over and over again until it doesn't make sense anymore?"
"Yeah!" He says, turning to look up at her. "Just like that." He shrugs, "The fans still seem to enjoy it, it's just. I don't know."
"I can imagine that would be hard. From what I can see though, they love it, they really do and on socials I've only seen good things." She tells him.
It's true, the boys socials are at an all time high and they show no signs of stopping. She's been posting little clips of the band singing different songs each night and the fans have been absolutely loving it. It's even been reaching new demographics better than she thought.
"Thank you," he nods.
"You're loved baby," she tells him. "Let yourself be loved yeah?"
"By you?" He asks cheekily.
She chuckles and shoves him away from her jokingly. "Yeah," she rolls her eyes. "By me and everyone."
"Just want you," he yawns.
She smiles and they settle into some silence. She loves how peaceful the quiet times can be between the two of them.
It's how she always pictured a relationship to be. She wanted someone who she has good communication with and he certainly does that well, but she wanted this too. The comfort of knowing the person well enough that you can communicate through feeling instead of only words alone.
"Do you know how you sounded?" She asks with no intention of an answer more than his questioning hum, "Angelic."
"Stop it love. You're making me blush now," he laughs shyly and hides his face in her chest again.
"But you're my angel. I'm sorry, you'll just have to get used to it." She says matter of factly.
"You're not sorry." He teases, looking up at her.
"No, I'm not." She smirks at him.
He sighs and shakes his head, but moves up so he rests on his pillow and he can take her into his arms. She wraps an arm around his middle and tangles one of her legs in between his.
"Good night my love. I hope you dream of me."
She lets out a bubbling laugh, "Don't you mean sweet dreams?"
He smirks into her hair, "Think that's what I just said."
