HAND IN HAND two kids walk towards a secluded park. The blonde one, roughly five years of age, puffed his cheeks out in dismay. "Why Haru?" He asked with a hint of vex.
"Because he doesn't drool in his sleep. Couples need to sleep with each other and they can't do that peacefully if one of them drools." (Y/n) replied, annoyed that Manjiro, her best friend brought up their topic about marriage.
A few moments ago, the two were happily talking about their parents until the topic of marriage was brought up. It was Manjiro who continued the topic, even when his friend had already shrugged it off, almost as if insisting that they continued to talk about it.
Manjiro made her choose between him and Haruchiyo, their other best friend who was also coincidentally (Name's) very bashful neighbour. The former choose Haruchiyo for the fact that he doesn't drool in his sleep.
Manjiro was undoubtedly upset with her decision, not because of her reasons but because she choose someone else other than him.
"You don't love me anymore?" The boy whined, heart, clenching with disappointment.
"No, I do. I just wouldn't marry you." Manjiro pouted even more from her cruel rejection.
"I can be a better husband than him." He said with utmost confidence, his small chest puffed out.
"Oh, how?"
"Well, for instance, I am cuter than him." He held out one finger, counting his ideas.
"Second, I am a better fighter so I can protect you from bullies." He lifted another finger.
"Third, I can love you more than he can!" He declared. "I'll be better and stop drooling in my sleep! That way you will definitely marry me instead of Haru!"
His best friend merely chuckled at his adorable presentation. Not wanting to upset him further with the topic at hand, she dragged him to the park bench where they will share a picnic.

AT THE BIG AGE OF FIFTEEN, Mikey still drools in his sleep and now he snores very loudly. Worse, he sleeps every chance he gets even the worse place he can think of sleeping, he'll sleep.
Whether it's a speeding motorcycle or at class, he'll take the opportunity with open arms.
Regardless of the fact that he drools and snores, you still care for the man. He's a ray of sunshine, often childish in nature but without a doubt the best friend you can ever ask for.
Mikey shows his love differently than others, he shows it in the most annoying but sweet way.
Aggressive head pats, slapping your back, stealing your stuff, dragging you out to eat, and even suffocating in your sleep because of his infamous deathly cuddle traps.
With the years you've spent with Mikey, you've grown attached to each other. Wherever you go, he goes. Everyone would go on about how Mikey was almost attached to your hip by how he stuck to you like a magnet.
It wasn't difficult to love Mikey, nor was it easy to hate his annoyingly adorable quirks. It all seemed natural in a way that you loved every bit of him and vice versa.
"(Name)?" The teacher called out your name while they eyed the list of students in the class to check the attendance.
"Here" you replied, the simple word brought about anxiety when it truly shouldn't but the weight of the entire room felt like a sudden burden at that moment.
The teacher paused as they skimmed through the present students. Their eyes landed on one specific name. "Where is Harushi Miyazaki?" The teacher's eyes fell on one empty seat and so did everyone else's.
"Miyazaki hasn't come to school since last week. He doesn't even answer our calls." Hiromi, the class president interjected. Her tone was laced with worry.
Everyone had some suspicions about his absence. He was a notorious student known for picking up fights and skipping school but he would never disappear for this long, nor would he leave without a text. He was close to the class president, meaning he could tell her anything at a moment's notice if ever.
"He probably got beaten up somewhere." One of your classmates snickered, followed by another crowd. Though, the idea didn't seem too far off from the truth knowing his personality.
He had broken your school project last week, which you've worked so hard on for weeks and merely laughed when he saw the broken state. He even continued to stomp on it to further insult you.
You couldn't mirror their remorse because of the said incident.
Ignoring your classmates, you glanced over to Mikey's peaceful figure. He was sleeping without care on his desk. The teachers would never do anything about it, feeling threatened and knowing full well he won't even pay attention to class even if they do.
The only reason why Mikey even attends school was that he gets to spend time with you.
He usually spends class hours dozing off or talking to you. When he's with you, it was clear that the world around him was a blur and he only pays attention to you.
He talks even when the teacher is talking, so it was clear to everyone else who wasn't the teacher's favourite but they don't do anything about him, not wanting to offend him by any means.
You tap his shoulder repeatedly to wake him up. He groans, telling you that you have one more second to grab his attention before he dozes off again.
"Do you know what happened to Harushi?" You whispered, loud enough for only the two of you can hear.
Hearing that, it seemed to catch his interest because he sat straight. Mikey blinks away his sleepiness and is barely successful in doing so but he still managed to face you properly. "The guy who broke your project and bullied you?"
You nodded. Fortunately for the two of you, no one was paying attention to your conversation as they were all busy pointing out Harushi's strange absence.
"Don't know, probably unconscious in a ditch somewhere."
It was meant to be a joke, you believed. But the way Mikey said it held a hint of sincerity you can't brush away. Still, you nodded and didn't question him further as he needed his beauty sleep too.
You expected him to go back to sleep but instead, he continued. "Why? Are you concerned about his well-being?"
You glanced back at him again, only to see a bored yet calculating expression on his face as you did. He didn't seem upset but you felt unease with how he questioned you, you couldn't explain it.
"No, I was just curious."
Questioning Mikey wasn't in your mind until you remembered a distinct recollection of you complaining about Harushi to him and him offering to get rid of him for you. At that, you thought he was merely joking to cheer you up.
Most of the time, you couldn't read Mikey. Even with the years you've spent with him, it was difficult to tell if he was truly being serious or trying to be funny for your sake.
Strange how every time you've encountered an inconvenience in your life, it would disappear the next day without fail. Regardless of how minor it was.
"Okay," Mikey smiled brightly, erasing any trace of urgency. "Want to go eat after school At the cafe we always go to?"
