THE SEA of men in black uniforms parted to welcome your arrival. The captains offered proud smiles, nodding at you as you passed by them. The toman members who grew familiar with your presence could only share a look of curiosity and most, surprise.

Not only were you the first female member of Toman, but you were the only one too. Mikey had trusted your skills well enough to appoint you to Mitsuya's division and was confident that you could handle yourself.

The reason why you joined Toman was for you to bring back Baji. You couldn't wait on the sidelines while your other friends fought at the battle that will commence tomorrow.

Now, you stood in front of Manjiro wearing a similar black uniform. He offered you a smile, one that displayed satisfaction. He's thinking how the uniform suited you well and he had known that you would look good in the toman uniform he would have appointed you long ago.

-

Five years ago, at the sano residence.

Ten-year-old Baji sat with you on the floors of Grandpa Sano's dojo. The old man had to yell at his eldest grandson again, leaving you both roughly thirty minutes of rest.

You used up the time recovering what energy you lost from training for the last two hours. Baji was the one keeping the small conversation going, talking about the new stray cats he's been feeding. Eventually, the conversation strays away toward something entirely different.

"(Name), if Manjiro dies would you be sad?"

It didn't match the wholesome topic of cats, it alarmed you how random the question was.

You raised a brow at his question, somewhat upset that he brought up the topic of death. It was like he was trying to kill Mikey off with his imaginative ideas.

"He won't die because I'll be here to protect him." You stated confidently, frown deepening when Baji laughed at what you said. His fangs were displayed, with how large his grin was.

"How are you going to protect him when he's stronger than you?" Baji clutched his stomach when you sent a kick, successfully shutting him up.

"You're one to talk, you punch like a feather.'' you retorted, annoyed at how he continued bringing you down. You didn't fully know if Baji was stronger than you, because he never used force against you after his mother scolded him about playing it easy.

But without a doubt, Mikey was far stronger than anyone at the dojo. He was commended for his skills and hard work. It was raw talent sharpened by years of dedication and discipline.

Almost everyone looked up to Manjiro, especially you and Baji. As cocky and mean as he was, you couldn't help but admire the youngest son of the Sano family.

It was the way he cared about the people around him. It was a known fact that he wasn't the best at showing his affection, as he was always keen on showing it through his actions than words of affirmation itself.

"But to answer your question, yes I think I would be very sad." You replied.

Baji nodded at your answer. He let it sink in, before replying. "Strange, that's what Mikey told me too."

"You go around asking people if they're going to be sad if one of their loved ones dies?" You asked him, one brow raised to question the strange boy.

"What no-!!'' Baji grew red-faced and tried to redirect the subject. "I was just-!! Ugh!" He gave up, upset at how you took this as an opportunity to laugh at him.

After your fit of laughter, you settled back down beside him on the tatami mat. "I don't think Mikey will die soon. I mean, he has me." You imagined Mikey's life without you and you laughed at the funny thought of him choking to death due to him eating while he was sleepy.
