AFTER A FEW HOURS at Haruchiyo's house spent catching up and eating snacks together, it was best for you to get going. It was nearing four and home was still far away.

"Remember our promise." Haruchiyo reminded you. He was walking you out of the sketchy neighborhood and back to the train station. "It's best if we do everything in secret." He added.

"I understand. I won't tell him anything. I'll just tell him I was with my cousin and that my phone died." You said. It didn't manage to fully reassure him but he nodded regardless.

"(Name)... I have a question." Haruchiyo wanted to get this off his chest before anything else. He's worried he may never get the opportunity to ask you or even get close to you again.

"Okay, go ahead."

"Do you like Mikey?"

You paused, unsure how to answer him. Were your feelings for Mikey merely platonic or were you infatuated with your childhood best friend? To put in those types of examples, it was hard for you to fully answer.

Because what you felt towards Mikey was far more difficult, you've come to learn that it was not to be described as mere like, it was something of deeper understanding.

You weren't exactly lovers by any means, but in a way, it felt like it. As any normal person would see, the two of you had eyes for each other. Maybe a little too much.

Being with Mikey wasn't simple. He had his childish ways and was most difficult to deal with but you wouldn't choose anyone to be with other than him. He was the only person who cared about you deeply, not even your parents can show the level of concern Mikey displayed when he saw you all hurt.

It was as if you can put down all the burden you carried when you were with Mikey because he was always there, annoying yes, but there was no one else who can show as much love and courage as he can.

Mikey never doubts you. Nor will he learn how to. You trust him with your life as he does to you. He completes you, like a missing piece. Everywhere he will go, you'll be there to follow closely behind. Whatever he plans in the future, you'll support him.

It was always him, you'd always think to choose him above anyone else.

Without Mikey, you wouldn't know what to do. He'd always been there. Every day for almost your entire life. If he choose to disappear one day, perhaps death was a better option than none. He carries your life in his hands and he's very careful with it.

"It's more complicated than that, haru." You only smiled at him.

You only saw half his face because of his black mask but you couldn't help but notice the unmistakable shatter of his expression. His heart clenched tightly and he feels as though he was going to faint with how rapidly his heart was beating against his chest.

"What if Mikey turns against everyone else and leave?"

"Then I'll be there for him. I'll follow him until at the ends of the earth."

"Are you fucking insane?! What makes you think he won't hurt others just for you? Or even worse, you. You have the opportunity to leave him now, (name). Don't live your life being miserable next to him." Haruchiyo pleaded.

"I'm honored he would go that far to protect me. And I'd rather be miserable with him than be with anyone else. As long as I'm with him, then it's okay."

The train was arriving shortly, leaving you no more time to talk. But instead of rushing, you only offered a faint smile.

Whatever feelings you had for Haruchiyo in the past were an act of puppy love. Mere infatuation brought by the Innocence of a child. What you have with Mikey as of now has those qualities, but you understood that it's more complicated as well.

As soon as your train arrived, you waved haruchiyo goodbye and stepped inside the nearly packed train.

The events of today still lingered fresh and you were curious as to what will happen if you meet Mikey. Would he be upset that you disregard his concern? What you do know is that he was most likely waiting for you back home.

And you were right.

Your front door was left unlocked and his shoes were by the doorway when you entered the house. The lights coming from the living room were on.

You walked towards the living room to find Mikey sitting on the single-person couch, already expecting your entrance. He looked straight towards you with bored eyes that you couldn't read. He looked to be in a daze, had he not spoken.

"I was worried." He said in a calm but firm voice. "I called you repeatedly and I even sent you texts. The one time you answered the phone, you didn't listen to me. You even hung up on purpose. Don't you know how worried I was?'' this time, his voice cracked.

"Mikey, I was with my cousin and I couldn't respond because both of our phones were dead. I was also confused why you were so anxious on the phone." You told him. You kept your promise to Haruchiyo despite the conversation you had.

You knew that you still had to protect Haruchiyo because if Mikey were to find out then who knows what he would do to your childhood friend?

"Bullshit." Mikey stood up and walked towards you in a haste pace, making you step backward the moment he stopped in front of you.

Grabbing you by the arm, Mikey pulled you closer and you were only inches away from his face as he whispered his next words.

"Do you want to end up again on that hospital bed? Do you want to be beaten up by random men on the streets again? Because I don't. I only wanted what's best for you and what's best for you is to stay by my side."

It hurts Mikey to be mad at you, but he convinces himself that he was only doing this out of concern. He doesn't want you to get hurt again and the only way he can ensure that was for you to stay next to him.

If he's not by your side the next time you get hurt he'll blame himself again. He wants you to know that this was the only way you can stay safe.

"Mikey-"

"Is it really hard to understand (name)?" His voice falls into a smaller tone, one of vulnerability. "I'm sorry." He looked down. "I'm sorry for getting mad at you but... I was just worried- I don't want my next visit to be at a hospital."

One moment Mikey was furious and the next, he felt like he was about to try. These mixed emotions only confused you, but you were trying to understand where he was coming from.

You understood how much it affected him when he heard the news of you being beaten by ten men and in return earned you the trip to the hospital.

He didn't want that to happen again, which causes him to go almost crazy about keeping you safe.
Perhaps this was his strange way of expressing his worries.

Mikey lets go of his harsh grip on your arm and instead pulls you into a warm hug. He buries his face on your neck to hide his tears and vulnerability.

You soothed his back and returned the hug. These confusing feelings were eating you alive but you just didn't know what to do. All you wanted to do now was reassure Mikey that everything will be alright.

You don't blame him for his actions because if he were to be the one who was laying in that hospital bed, you'd react unpleasantly too. Your heart swells at Mikey's concern for you and you felt incredibly guilty for not telling him the truth but you thought it was better this way.

Maybe this y/n is a little bit wrong in the head too. She must have been ignoring the red flags for far too long because in truth she doesn't care at all (lmao!!). I only revealed it in this chapter but I think I've scattered some details in the previous chapters.
