2 months later As I looked around the court room at all our family and friends my chest swelled with pride. It was adoption day for my girl. Nova stood between Ja and I with our attorney Mr. Langston on the side along with her social worker Mrs. Brown.
"Okay, I can see that you are all excited. Let's get this process started. You guys have already been sworn in please introduce yourselves." Our Attorney told us. Ja went first.
"How are you your honor. I'm Temetrius Morant,"
"Hello your honor I'm Islan Moore." I introduced myself.
"Mr. Langston you may proceed with the next step." The judge told our attorney.
"I'll start With Ms. Moore first. Why do you want to adopt?" He questioned.
"The moment Ja introduced me to Nova, I felt connected to her. After I learned her story I vowed to help her in anyway I can. When she called me the night she was hurt i knew from that moment forward I would do anything to protect her. Basically, I want to adopt because I love her, my family loves her. She's apart of us now and I want to keep it that way forever." I spoke honestly, I felt like I was rambling.
"Mr. Morant, Same question."
"As my girlfriend said, The moment I met nova there was a connection. She immediately started telling me about her life and I knew I needed to be the one to protect her. From the moment she moved into my moms house it never felt like she was my little sister. I really felt like god sent me the daughter I didn't know I needed. I want to adopt her because I love her, I want her to have her forever home. I'd be honored to her dad."
"Those answers are some of the purest I've ever heard. Next Question Mr. Langston." The Judge Said.
"Do you both understand the permanency of adoption?"
"Yes," We both answered.
"This Is The last question, I only had two. What are your hopes for Nova?"
"Our hope for Nova is that she never has to feel anything less than loved and cared for again. Our hope is that we can raise her into a beautiful member of society and that she goes on to be the amazing young woman I know she can be."
"Nova, this question is for you. Do you give Ms. Moore and Mr. Morant permission to adopt you?" Mr. Langston asked Nova.
"Yes," She choked out, knowing what was coming. We all were getting choked up. I looked over at Ja who was visibly choking back his tears.
"Normally as the judge I have question because I can see BS a mile away. I feel so much love in this room for this little girl it has me emotional. I also have to say that I don't usually sign off on non marital adoptions, but as I said I can feel the love so I know no matter how things turn out this little girl will be cared for. Please come up here so we can take a photo." We all headed to the front of the courtroom with the judge and snapped a quick picture.
