It's Christmas Eve.
Fliqpy stayed up, gently carding his fingers through Splendid's hair. Things were good. Well, as good as they could be all things considering. Life was quiet. They were safe. They weren't out-of-order. He wasn't overwhelmed.
Splendid shifted in his lap, burying his face into his thigh and sighing, tilting his head slightly so Flippy could gently scratch the back of his head. He felt himself smile at that.
He's so cute...
He leaned back against the wall where the fort was built against. He had let Flippy take over for a while because he really, really just wanted to pretend he didn't exist anymore, even though now he was far more aware and awake than before. They were more intertwined than before. It was like they were "Clumsy" again, back before they were separated. It was weird thinking of themselves like that.
He'd never celebrated Christmas very much, not even with Sneaky and Ka-Boom. His family either never had money for it or he spent that time alone because both his parents went out to do their own thing. He wasn't comfortable enough to partake with the others when he finally had people to celebrate with.
But Splendid likes it.
The whole house had been re-decorated last weekend. Everything from the figurines to the coasters to the stupid gnomes outside were traded out for any and everything Christmas themed. Fliqpy wasn't sure how to feel about it, but he did his best to be good about it. He didn't want to ruin Splendid's holiday cheer like last year. He cringed remembering how he almost burned the whole house down when he saw the reefs hanging up on his bedroom door.
I should get him something.
"Cuddles is throwing a party. He invited us." Splendid commented as Fliqpy watched him from the table, stirring a bowl of batter. "Would you like to go?"
Flippy glanced up when Splendid turned to look back at him. There was a hopeful look in his eyes and Fliqpy clenched his fist under the table. They've been at home aside from the time Splendid left to go say "hi" to everyone when they came back. He wanted to say "no" and stay home.
But that's not fair to Splendid.
"... maybe for a little..." he said quietly, fighting back the frown that threatened to form when Splendid brightened more.
"Great!" He grabbed a pan from the bottom shelf. "I was making these and planning on sending Splendont to give them to everyone if you said no! But we can take these ourselves!"
Fliqpy almost let out a shout at that, but held it in as he glanced back towards the table, where multiple boxes of baked cupcakes and breads were packed in. Flippy had been sampling all of them before they were packed up and he had no clue what they were for. There were close to ten boxes of a dozen different cakes and bread of multiple flavors.
I should have known he was planning something.
Ha, you know how he is. Besides, maybe it won't be so bad.
But I don't really want to go...
"When is it?" He asked instead, poking at the lemon cupcake he was given.
"Today."
Fliqpy looked up at him, his eyes wide, "And you're telling me now?"
Splendid's cheeks reddened as he looked away, "Ah, well, I didn't think you'd say "yes"..."
Cute.
Goddamn idiot.
He sighed instead before nodding, "Fine. Whatever, I already said yes."
