Steve awoke with a start, sweat dripping down his chest as he pulled himself to sit upright in bed.

It'd been a week since he'd met his supposed soulmate. And he hadn't managed to get her off his mind for even a second.

Even in his dreams he saw her. Pointing that gun in his face, her eyes faltering as she saw his matching set of zeros. The look of horror and betrayal etched into her features. Repulsion but intrigue, clear as day.

Was the thought of him as a soulmate really that bad?

There was no denying she was attractive if he stopped to think about her like that long enough. She was magnetic, even if she was trying to assassinate him. But was it a sort of confirmation bias? That he was forcing himself to think of her like that because of what his arm said?

Steve wiped his face with his hands, groaning as he threw the covers back. He needed to go to his support group. He couldn't afford distractions right now. Between his duties such as those and trying to bring back half the world, a woman shouldn't be the thing dominating his thoughts.

So he ran.

He ran so fast he thought at one point his legs might actually disintegrate below him. It was only when he got back to the compound after his run that he realised he'd worn down the sole of his sneakers.

Grimacing, he threw them in the trash as he turned to get a cup of coffee in the kitchen, seeing Tony playing with a hologram coming out of his wrist.

It'd taken some time to convince Tony to come and help them with the supposed time travel thing. And they were getting closer, he could feel it. The idea that it was even possible was crazy to him, but he supposed with all the events that had happened recently, perhaps it wasn't the craziest.

Tony looks up, frowning at Steve.

"Hey Cap, still mulling over this whole secret-spy-killer-soulmate scenario?" Tony says with a wink, knowing full well that Steve could think of nothing else.

He sighs, taking a sip from his mug and avoiding eye contact with Tony.

"How messed up is it that I finally get a soulmate and it's someone who wants me dead? Not only that but whilst we have bigger fish to fry." Steve groans as he takes a seat opposite Tony.

The latter only looks amused however.

"Oh I think it's very ironic actually. And if I was your soulmate, I'd wanna kill you too." Tony shoots back, giving him a wink.
