"Your mission Viper, repeat it back to me." He orders, blood trickling from her nose at the defiance she had dared to show earlier when she had questioned why Medusa wanted Thanos to succeed.

Her head pounds, she had started asking too many questions recently and they were growing weary of it. But they couldn't kill her. She was too important to them. And she knew that. But they could do everything but kill her. She wasn't sure which was worse.

"Destroy the Avengers. Take down Captain America first. The rest will follow. Ensure the population remains halved." She gasped through pain in her ribs.

She was wiser than to let them see how much she hurt inside. She was hardened to pretty much everything at this point.

She was beginning to wonder if there was anything more to life than killing. She was growing tired of it. Her whole life she had been moulded into a weapon. She felt hollow inside, sick of being manipulated, sick of living for others.

She'd never been allowed to think for herself. To experience life. As she neared thirty, things had started to change for her. She'd begun to doubt her destiny, her whole reason for existing.

She wanted more.

There was an unsettling feeling in her bones, a certain restlessness that wouldn't go away any time soon.

He strikes her hard across the face, knowing she will bruise, but that it will heal quickly as usual.

"Your mind is busy Asset. Do not lose sight of this. They are terrorists. We need to eliminate the threat." He hisses as he hands her a gun.

"Do your fucking job and back here for reset." He commands as she feels a sinking feeling in her gut.

"Sir." She confirms, the pain from yesterday's mission of taking down government officials still fresh in her body. Rest was not a concept she was accustomed to.

"Proof that the Captain is dead in minus 10 hours or else you will regret it." He threatens as she nods, swallowing hard.

Something had to change.

Suddenly she is running away from the warehouse where she'd dropped her gun upon the shock of her discovery.

Captain America was her soulmate.

Nausea fills her as she shakes hard.
