You scrambled around nearby rooms, putting whatever you may need in a small backpack. There wasn't much security right now, since Bowser was preparing everyone to find the Super Star. Though, you still tried not to take much, since it could cause suspicion. Putting the final first aid item in the backpack, you worried that Kamek might try to find you once he found out you were missing.
You then decided you needed a way for him to know you were gone forever. And there was only one way to do that; You had to be dead to him. Literally.
After pondering on how to do this, you took liquid dish soap from one of the bathrooms. With those, you also took a knife and red dye from the royal kitchen, and a substance similar to corn starch. Using these ingredients, you were able to make a pretty convincing fake blood. In fact, a shiver went down your spine as you saw the finished result. Dipping the knife in the blood, you splattered the rest onto your bed and floor.
With goosebumps at this convincing scene, you tied your hair up and changed into a black hood. You were already wearing black pants and boots to match, and heat resistant gloves. Though, these gloves caused you to think about Kamek again. The memory of recieving the gloves from him, and telling you that you'd need them one day replayed in your head. Sighing, you took out the rope you packed, and headed towards the window. Hovever, something stopped you before you were ready to go.
The sight of your wand caused you to freeze up. For more than half your life, Kamek trained you with magic, even though you were never very good at it. Regaining yourself, you stuffed the wand in your backpack.
"I might need it anyway" you thought out loud.
You then tied the rope to your window. It had to be tight enough to hold you, yet loose enough to pull off by force. Now standing on your window, you stared into your bedroom one final time. As you opened your window, you felt the cold wind against your face. Almost as it whispered "turn back" to you.
Tying the other end of the rope to your waist, fear began to overwhelm you. This was going to change your life forever, and there would be no turning back. The koopas would be your enemies, and you'd have no real home anymore. If all went well, you'd be able to explore the lands and do things you would have never been able to here. If it went wrong, you'd have no one to turn to. You'd be a lost cause, and you'd suffer a worse fate than if you stayed.
You'd die alone.
You didn't realize you were crying until the tears rolled off your face. Every memory replayed in your head as you pulled a loose stone off the castle wall. Despite your lack of confidence, you decided that you had hope. Hope that this new life would be worth risking this one for
Inhaling, you threw the stone at the window, breaking the glass. And finally, you screamed at the top of your lungs. This had finalized your murder scene, but also meant you were now on a time limit. Quickly, you climbed down the castle walls as the tears continued to flow.
~Timeskip~
You climbed for what felt like forever, but it wasn't any more than forty minutes. You could hear guards running and talking amongst themselves. They discovered your false death, and were in a panic. But you knew they didn't actually care. In fact, they never have. Growing up, Kamek was the only one who looked after you. You were usually isolated from the others, especially Bowser. However, you also knew how bad the guards would look if someone killed Kamek's student and got away with it.
As you reached the bottom, you pulled against the rope, causing it to fall. And after stuffing it into your backpack, you ran as fast as you could.
Luckily, the guards were distracted by your murder scene, making the getaway a lot easier.Despite having no idea where you were going, you didn't stop. Hopping over lava rivers and sliding under tree branches, you ran faster and faster. You had to be out of reach of the kingdom. Eventually, you stopped by a tree, gasping for air. Dizziness and loss of breath overwhelmed your entire body, and your lungs felt ready to explode. Legs shaking, you held the tree tightly to avoid losing balance.
As your vision cleared up, you saw a dry bones approaching you. You gasped at this, and took out your wand in attempts to use your magic. However, it had no effect. A knot in your stomach grew as you kept trying, but not a single spark came out of it. Panicking, you made a run for it, attracting even more of them.
Soon enough, an entire swarm of dry bones were chasing you. Your body still unrecovered from the last run, you were in agony as you tried desperately to get away.
Then, you caught sight of the abandoned castle. With no other choice, you waved your wand again as you approached the moat of lava. Luckily, you managed to do it correctly, and large rocks in the moat formed a path. You jumped across each of them, and climbed towards the castle doors, nearly slipping several times. Trying your hardest to stay calm, you avoided looking towards the swarm following you.
Just before one of the dry bones grabbed at your arm, you made it to the doors and opened them immediately. With the swarm pushing against you, closing them was a struggle. Finally, the doors slammed shut, and you backed away panting. Your entire chest felt inexistent, and you began to lose your balance. Giving in, your eyesight distorted, and you dropped your wand as you collapsed.
~Meanwhile~
The entire royal army celebrated retrieving the Super Star. However, Kamek was not enjoying himself. He and Bowser had been alerted of your "death", and he'd been in grief since. He hung his head as thoughts of the girl he raised flooded his mind. Currently on his throne enjoying the heavy metal music, Bowser noticed his unhappiness. Despite never knowing you well (And you both being under thin ice with each other), he tried to comfort him with the minimal he knew how
"..I'm sorry." He told Kamek. "It's probably been hard for you. I mean, she was around you her whole life."
Kamek nodded and trembled as his thoughts of you remained. He knew that he'd been too distracted with the star to even realize it had happened. To him, you were gone, and he had failed you.
As a friend. As a teacher. As a father.
