You had faked death to escape a life full of power and killing. Risking your life in the process, you quest...
Underneath some rubble, you couldn't figure out how it all came to this. All you could remember was flying out of a sewer, and bouncing off a mushroom.
Aside from the ringing in your ears, all you could hear were roars, cries, and crashes. Your ribs felt shattered, and your head pounded.
That was when it all came back to you. Bowser had gone berserk, and tried to kill you. Everyone flew into an explosion, and you ended up falling into these god-awful rocks.
And worst of all, the two people you cared about risked their lives for you.
As you tried to get up, your legs shot with pain. Your head banged against the floor as you fell back down. Groaning, you felt the warm blood pooling underneath you. Each cut and bruise felt like hell, and every breath ached your chest. You clenched your fists as steady tears streamed down your face. Taking a deep, shaky breath, your arms trembled.
Fighting to stay awake, you worried where the others were, and if they'd survive. By now, you knew you wouldn't. The metallic smell of blood gave you an even stronger headache, and you grew more dizzy by the second.
You were right since the beginning.
You would die alone
"..no.. I-I can't!" You told yourself desperately.
You did not come this far for a death like this. You didn't let Luigi and Kamek give it all just for you to die. It couldn't end this way. You had to stay awake for them.
You had to get out of there.
You took another deep breath. One arm clutching your chest, you tried to fight off the pains as you pushed away the rocks and debris. Eyesight distorted, you dragged yourself over the rubble, and ignored every sense in your body begging you to stop.
Pushing away one last rock, you felt the light shine against your face. You crawled out panting as blood dripped down your legs, finally catching sight of what was happening.
"YOU JUST DON'T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT!"
"Yeah, I've been told that before"
As Princess Peach and Kamek were being restrained, Mario stood in front of Bowser, clearly injured already. You held onto a wall for balance as you lifted yourself up, trying to get a better look.
In a matter of seconds, Peach broke away from the koopas' grasps, and kicked a shell at the super star, sending it flying towards Mario.
"Mario, the star!" Quickly, he ran to get it, but not before Bowser could react.
"NO, THAT'S MINE!" He ran after him, and used his fire breath. Your eyes widened as the fire reached Mario, but he wasn't burned.
Looking closer, all thoughts froze when you saw Luigi, using a manhole cover to protect his brother.
"Nothing can hurt us... as long as we're together." He told Mario, struggling to hold the heavy cover.
"Luigi.." You whispered, amazed yet terrified of his brave decision.
Then, Mario reached his hand towards him. Taking his hand, Luigi let go of the cover, and they ran to the star together. The flames reached them quickly, leaving nothing but smoke.
"NO!!" You screamed. Your chest shot with pain, and you fell back to the floor. Bowser laughed menacingly. Now, you'd stopped breathing.
They were gone, Luigi was gone.
But then, just as the tears flowed in, you saw rainbow lights as the smoke cleared up. In a bright aura, you saw Mario and Luigi unharmed, and with the star's powers. You gasped in relief, still paining your chest. Bowser tried to kick them away, but they didn't move an inch. They punched the monster through the air, sending him flying across the street.
"RIP THEM TO PIECES!" Bowser roared. His army charged at the brothers, but the effortlessly knocked each enemy away. Your jaw dropped as they ran through the crowd. However, your shock couldn't last. Feeling a shiver run down your spine, you winced. You hadn't realized how serious your wounds were until you felt the second pool of blood under your legs. Feeling lightheaded, your eyesight became a blur, and your breaths grew slow. You hugged your chest as you lost consciousness, and a small smile formed across your face.
He was going to be okay.
~3rd Person Pov~
Practically invincible, Mario and Luigi threw Bowser into the air, and punched him to the ground. As he fell to the broken castle's head, the brothers jumped to kick him down. He tried using his fire breath, but it was no use. They pushed the fire down effortlessly, and kicked him back to the ground. The castle remains exploded, sending off colorful lights.

With the star's power worn off, Mario and Luigi stood in front of Bowser, who could hardly move anymore. Holding a blue mushroom, Peach approached, and Donkey Kong, Toad, and Kamek followed.
"Peaches.. eheheh.. listen, this is not the way I pictured it, but give me one more chance..?" Bowser asked nervously. Peach shot him a disgusted look.
"Ew, no!" And with that, she force fed him the mushroom, shrinking him. Toad scooped him up and placed him into a jar.
"Sorry sire, but I'm afraid you've been dethroned." Kamek smiled
"Told you I'd get you a pet turtle." Mario told Peach.
"Not bad, Mustache. And Kamek," She bent down to him, smiling. "Thank you for helping us."
"My pleasure, Princess." He responded, giving Bowser one last glance before he was stuffed into Toad's backpack. Sighing, he still felt unsure about his choices. After all, he raised Bowser too, and cared for him no less than he cared for Y/N.
Behind them, a crowd of locals began to cheer for their new heroes.
"Let's hear it for the Super Mario Brothers!!" Someone yelled.
Surprised the praise, everyone waved at the crowd, grateful for how well things turned out. But then, Luigi's smile faded when he remembered something.
"Wait, where's Y/N?! Is she okay?!" He asked worriedly. Mario gave him a confused look.
"Who's Y/N?"
Scanning, the streets, Donkey Kong's eyes widened.
"Over there!" He yelled, jumping over the crowd and vehicles. As the crowd moved off the street, the others followed, fearing the worst. Nearby a shop, Donkey Kong picked up Y/N, who was still unconscious. Luigi went pale. Blood streamed down Y/N's legs, and she was covered in bruises.
"No... no no no no no.." He whispered, approaching her. Kamek froze at the sight he wished he'd never have to see.
