~3rd Person POV~

He couldn't get it out of his head.

Her pale skin, her closed eyes, the running blood. It all haunted Luigi as he struggled to stay calm. Tears welling up in his eyes, he paced the floor nonstop.

In the other room, he could hear the toads tending to Y/N's wounds, and none of them sounded confident.

"Hurry, hurry! We can't lose her!"

"Stitch the wounds!"

"Should we perform CPR??"

His breaths were short and quick as he listened, losing more and more faith of her survival. Quick to comfort his brother, Mario put his hands on Luigi's shoulders.

"Hey.. she's gonna be alright, Lu. Just take some deep breaths."

Blinking away tears, Luigi did his best to mimic Mario's slow breathing. And slowly but surely, his pounding heart began to relax. He still trembled, and the fear in his eyes remained, but he was at least able to control his thoughts again. And it came into play when he looked at Kamek, who was standing against the wall.

"You're...you're magic, right? You have to know a spell that can help!"

Kamek stared at the floor as he shook his head.

"I'm sorry... but my magic doesn't work that way." He replied dismally.

Desperation consumed, Luigi looked back at Mario, as if he knew someway to help.

"Luigi, if I knew a way to help, I would.."

Luigi sniffled as Mario took his hand, wishing that someone could do something. He didn't care what, just anything that could help Y/N. 

As tears fell down his cheeks, Princess Peach stepped out of the palace's emergency room.

"How is she, Princess?" Kamek asked nervously.

"Not good." She replied softly. "She lost a lot of blood, and the toads can barely keep her breathing."

Several tears ran underneath Kamek's glasses. This wasn't supposed to happen. None of this was. Now, all of his and Bowser's doings were putting his child to death. And he did nothing that could have stopped it.

"We'll keep trying, but... we don't know if she'll make it."

Hearing this, Luigi began to hiccup as he struggled not to cry any more. Mario nodded to Peach before hugging his brother.

"It's gonna be okay. It has to."

As Peach walked back through the door, Kamek lifted up his head, remembering something. It was kept secret for so long, but it had to be done. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

"There may be a way to save her.." Kamek thought aloud. Mario and Luigi looked back at him.

"The.. the green mushroom! It heals anyone it's fed to!"
Surprised at the convenience, Luigi's eyes lit up as he listened to him.
There was still hope.

"W-where do we get it??"

"Well.. they're very rare, but Bowser did keep one hidden."

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Mario grabbed Luigi's hands as he dashed towards the halls.

"Mario, wait! We don't even know where it is yet!" Luigi yelled.
Almost immediately, Mario stopped to realize he was right, and smiled at Kamek sheepishly.

Kamek sighed as he motioned his wand. And in a matter of seconds, all three teleported to what was seemingly the middle of nowhere. There were several piranha plants and trees, but nothing more than that. Kamek quickly approached a patch of dirt. And before anyone could speak, he waved his wand, and a green mushroom was lifted from the dirt.
