You weren't sure how long it had been since you passed out. Maybe a few hours, or even a day. Waking up unable to to open your eyes, you remained on the floor, listening to your surroundings. Loud and mysterious noises ran through your ears as your hearing returned.

First, the ringing. It felt so loud, and it muffled what little you could hear. However, you still recognized the screeches of dry bones quickly. As the ringing in your ears continued, you heard what sounded like footsteps, and screams of a person. This got louder and louder, and the door slammed open. Despite this, your hearing began to fail once again, and you struggled to stay awake. You fought the dizziness for what felt like forever, but it was useless. In seconds, you ended up losing consciousness again.

When you woke up, you felt something touch your hand. Your ears still rang, but nowhere near as bad as before. Slowly opening your eyes, you saw a white glove touching your hand.

"Are you alright??" A worried voice asked you. When you looked up, you gasped, seeing something you never thought you'd see in person. You tried to back away, only for your head to hit the floor. You stared into the eyes of this stranger in utter shock.

He was human.

This human seemed to be around your age. He wore a green collared shirt with denim overalls overtop. Matching his shirt, he wore a green cap with the letter L on it. As for his hair, you couldn't tell if it was black or brown, since it was so dark in the castle. Other than that, he did have a mustache, and blue eyes. Finally, you spoke what little you could.

"You're...you're human......you're human....like me..." Knees shaking, you stood up, still in shock. The man gave you a confused look as he stood up too.

"Is that.. not normal around here?"

You shook your head, trying to regain your composure. You probably wouldn't have been able to do this if you hadn't had so many questions. You had always been the only human around, and no one ever dared to enter the dark lands.

"How.... how did you get here?? Humans don't live in the dark lands.." You asked, knowing he couldn't possibly live here. He took a step back from you before responding

"Well, my brother and I fell through this pipe and... we got separated." He paused for a moment, staring at the floor. "I tried to find him, but I got chased and.... well, here I am."

Those pipes were not unfamiliar to you, since Kamek had told you about them before. Apparently, you could travel through different lands and worlds with them. But then, you realized that there must be even more humans around he had a brother. That meant that somewhere, humans weren't alone! And maybe you had came from there too!

"Anyway, I'm Luigi" The man told you, interrupting your thoughts.

"Y/N." You responded, still hardly believing what was in front of you.

You two fell into an awkward silence after that. Both of you were in intense thought, and for completely different reasons. Soon enough, you remembered your surroundings, and regained yourself.

"Well, those dry bones won't let up as long as they know we're here." You told Luigi with a sigh. "We're both stuck here."

"Are you sure? It's a big castle, there has to be a way out..." He questioned, looking around the room just in case.

"Not without the dry bones knowing." You sat down on some rubble as a familiar hopelessness overcame you. Luigi joined you, absorbing your doubtfulness. But then, remembering something you said, he began to question you as well.

"Wait, you said humans don't live in the dark lands.." You turned to him, knowing exactly where this was heading

"..Then, how did you get here?" You figured this question would come, since you asked him the same. And deciding you didn't have much to lose, you told him your background.

"Actually, I do. I was just the only one. I lived in the Koopa Kingdom, but-" You stopped at Luigi's stare of confusion. This surprised you, since any sensible person feared the Koopa Kingdom, and King Bowser

"Wow, you're really not from anywhere near here."

"Yeah, probably not." He chuckled nervously.

"Well, King Bowser rules it, and he's planning to rule the rest of the world, too. I never really knew why, but I was always taught to be part of his force and help him conquer the other kingdoms." You cringed as you told him this, sickened by those thoughts.

"So, he raised you?" Luigi asked, gathering what he knew so far.

"No, his henchman did. His name's Kamek. He found me in the Dark Lands when I was a baby."

Pausing, you thought about the bittersweet memory of being told this. Although you did want to know where you really came from, you almost knew for sure that'd never happen. It was another fantasy, just like getting out of here...

"But... I ended up running away, and the dry bones found me. And.. it got me stuck here." You clenched your fists in pure regret of your choices. It was a stupid idea from the start, and you knew it.

Before Luigi could respond, you heard a familiar sound outside. Your eyes widened in horror, hoping it wasn't what you thought it was.

"..Y/N?"

Ignoring Luigi's concern, you ran up the stairs. Looking out the nearest window, your fear was confirmed.

"No no no no no no.." You whispered to yourself as you stared outside. Fearing the worst, Luigi joined you by the window. You turned to him, panicked and fearful.

"We can't stay here. We gotta go... RIGHT NOW!" And with that, you ran downstairs to get your wand.

This one went through a TON of editing, but I'm pretty happy with it. I've been getting lots of inspiration from Beetlejuiceebb and unstable_asf 's Luigi stories, so go give them some love, too! Since I write the chapters in advance, I will be doing my best to keep chapter updates consistent.

Thank you for being here, and see you next chapter! ♡♡
