After taking a few sniffs, Luka's eyes went wide with innocence and confusion. "Mummy, why does mummy smell different?" he asked, tilting his head curiously.
He sniffed her again, then turned to his father with a question in his eyes. "Daddy?" he implored, looking for answers just as Christian was reaching out to the pack doctor via the mind link, preparing for a potential pregnancy test.
"Daddy, is mummy going to leave us? Is that why her smell is slightly different?" Luka's voice quivered with worry, and before waiting for a response, he flung himself into Christian's arms, sobbing. "Mummy doesn't like me, and Daddy... Mummy will leave us with Uncle Brian!"
"Baby~," Arlo began soothingly.
"Baby, listen to Mummy," Karol urged gently, her voice laced with love and desperation.
"Baby, listen to Mummy, will you?" she repeated through their mind link, hoping to penetrate Luka's distress.
"No! Mummy will leave me, and I don't want to hear your reasons!" Luka cried, holding tightly to Christian.
Karol exchanged a helpless glance with Christian, murmuring, "Help me," seeking his support. He smiled reassuringly but gently attempted to pry Luka from his embrace. "Baby~ Let's listen to Mummy's explanations, okay?" he coaxed, though Luka clung on even tighter.
"Luka baby, you know I love you and only you," she reassured, lavishing kisses on his head, the tenderness of her affection evident. Arlo emitted a low whine of frustration, unable to help but feel the weight of the moment.
"Quiet, don't whine," Karol half-joked, and he ceased immediately, his expression shifting to a disapproving pout.
Christian leaned down a conspiratorial whisper in Luka's ear. "Luka baby, Daddy thinks he knows why Mummy's scent has changed a little," he hinted.
"What is it, Daddy?" Luka whispered back, clearly intrigued.
"You both know that I'm here, right? Like right next to you two," he clarified, feigning innocence.
"Daddy, tell me!" Luka insisted, his curiosity piqued.
"Let's go and check, and if I'm right, you're going to love the news!" Christian said, grinning ear to ear, excitement bubbling within him.
"Okay then! Since we're all curious, let's go and find out, shall we?" he proposed, looking at both Karol and Luka with an eager glint in his eyes.
"Yes, yes! Let's go, Mummy! Let's go!" Luka cheered, oblivious to the weight of the moment.
The trio made their way to the medic wing, situated on the first floor of the mansion's west wing. Upon entering, they were greeted warmly by Doc Natalie. "Morning, Alpha. Morning, Luna. Morning, future Alpha Luka," she said, preparing her instruments with skilled hands.
In unison, they replied, "Morning, Doc," as they stepped into the examination room, anticipation buzzing in the air.
"Luna, if you please lay down here and pull up your shirt for me," Doc Natalie instructed, her tone professional yet warm.
Karol nodded, her heart fluttering with a mix of apprehension and hope. She approached the bed slowly, lying down and lifting her shirt, her slightly rounded belly exposed for everyone to see, hinting at the secret she had yet to accept fully.
Luka, curious and wide-eyed, mind-linked his father as he observed, "Daddy, why is Mummy's belly coming out?"
Luka quickly activated the mind link to his father, his innocent curiosity bubbling forth. "Daddy, why is Mummy's belly getting big?"
